On the verge of making history, Patrick Mahomes is receiving plaudits for being the dynasty general for the Kansas City Chiefs. Stephen A. Smith believes an unprecedented Super Bowl three-peat would “cement” Mahomes as the greatest QB to ever play the game. But even without the result, it’s hard to ignore his adroit skill and organic mastery of the QB position. For Steve Kerr, he sees a lot of Stephen Curry within Mahomes.

It goes back to being a revolutionary player. Curry, although undersized, became the most lethal three-point marksman the NBA has produced. Additionally, his style of play has become the norm of modern-age basketball. Well, Mahomes is no different, laying out the blueprint for quarterbacks with his ingenious passing and decision-making.

But for Kerr, it’s not their impact that causes him to see some similarity. The Warriors HC loves the fluidity with which his talisman plays the game. That’s exactly what he sees in Patrick Mahomes too.

“He (Mahomes) reminds me so much of Steph, honestly. A multi-sport (athlete), the fluidity, the athleticism that is sort of understated. There’s this brilliance in his movement and his flow… I think Mahomes is a beautiful player to watch and an amazing competitor,” Kerr said on 95.7 The Game.

Another similarity between them is their days as a dynasty. Stephen Curry and the Warriors began their reign in 2015 and won three championships in four years. On the other hand, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have the opportunity to do something never done in NFL history.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Mahomes the NFL's Curry, or is he carving his own unique path to greatness?

Have an interesting take?

A Super Bowl three-peat is unheard of. Only a handful of teams have come close, including Brady’s Patriots. Mahomes and the Chiefs are now in the same position. A historic Super Bowl is all set to be played out. The Philadelphia Eagles will fight for vengeance. Whereas Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs crew will go for glory that will etch their names in NFL history forever. And well. they will openly be able to use the ‘Three-Peat’ phrase, which is trademarked by Heat president Pat Riley. His attorney confirmed that the Chiefs have reached an agreement with the Heat president for the same.

Steve Kerr isn’t the only one who sees some similarity between Stephen Curry and Mahomes

Around this time last year, Patrick Mahomes was asked about his NBA comparison. Without much hesitation, he reverberated Kerr’s thoughts. “If I played basketball, I’d be just like Steph Curry. I mean, I got the shot. I just got to get a couple extra reps, a couple of shots up, and I’d be shooting just like him. That’s who I’d be,” the Chiefs QB jokingly claimed.

But there have been more people who have echoed the Warriors HC’s thoughts. Notably, Shannon Sharpe, an NFL Hall of Famer, sees some commonality in their mannerism. The former Broncos tight end was astounded by the way Curry changed the game with his shooting instincts. He couldn’t fathom his three-point expertise and half-court heaves which regularly stun crowds.

In that sense, he also feels Mahomes has the bravery to pull off some audacious passes from any position possible.

“He’s [Curry] revolutionized the game. But he will try anything, anywhere. Mahomes will try any throw, anywhere… All that stuff you see Stephen Curry do, he says I practice it. I practice all those shots and people think you just messing around. While you messing around come game time, it’s second nature. Every throw that you see Patrick Mahomes make in a game, I bet he is practicing,” Sharpe said on Undisputed.

Both the athletes have tons of respect for the way they approach the game. Mahomes and Curry are imaginative players who set no boundaries to the things they can do. So if Curry is taking threes from mid court or Patrick Mahomes makes a perfect throw while falling to the ground, it’s all part of their thought process which does seem eerily similar.

And well, it has led to the same destination – greatness.
