Jokic's equestrian win—Is he the most versatile athlete in the NBA right now?

The Serbian big man’s weekend plan is out! Nikola Jokić has had a busy off-season. We can rather call it a delightful off-season. Immediately after the post-season misery, he suited up for his national side in the Paris Olympics. After winning the bronze medal alongside his countrymen, he teamed up with Luka Doncic for an exhibition game for Goran Dragic’s farewell. Following that, the 29-year-old continued his off-season exploits, decking up his trophy cabinet with his horses.

It’s usually the American stars who get all the attention in the off-season. But, Jokic stole it last year after winning the 2023 championship. The NBA world had a closer look at the star’s lifestyle in his native. In short, he is a party animal, who is often shirtless in the celebratory spirit, and, most importantly, a prolific horse racer.

While Joker rode the two-wheeled horse carts himself to win the trophies last year, the MVP wasn’t present this time, as per Harrison Wind. Importantly, it wasn’t harness racing, but Equestrian. The DNVR reporter shared details of Jokic’s horse, Desiree Joyeuse, making her first win in equestrian, via X handle. The post also pointed out that the Denver Nuggets star wasn’t present at the event and revealed the star’s weekend plan, as Wind wrote, “Jokic wasn’t in attendance but is expected to be at the Ljubicevski Equestrian Games in Pozarevac, Serbia next weekend.”

While there isn’t clarity on the category that Jokic’s horse competed in, several reports suggest that Jokic won roughly about $5000. Moreover, there’s a reason why he couldn’t witness the event. The big man had an important basketball duty to take care of in Slovenia. The star teamed up with Luka Doncic for a charity game scheduled for Goran Dragi’s farewell. Steve Nash, Chris Bosh, and Nikola Vučević are some of the notable stars involved in the game.

The win with the horse, Desiree Joyeuse, wasn’t the only success. A few weeks before that, to be more precise, 24 hours after winning the bronze medal, Jokic’s other horse contributed to the trophy cabinet. This time, it was harness racing and the former NBA Champion was present for the event.

It was Harrison Wind again, the Nuggets Insider, who shared the details on his X handle. The post read, “24 hours after winning bronze in Paris: Nikola Jokić in the Winner’s Circle in Sombor after his horse Brenno Laumar won the biggest race of the day.”

While the horses continue to bring glory to Nikola Jokić, the star isn’t interested in winning. Speaking at the training camp last year, Jokic said, “My horses everywhere — I have them in France, Italy, Serbia. They’re all winning races, so I’m happy… They don’t need to be winning races. That’s my hobby. I just wish that they are healthy and that they run good. They don’t need to win.” However, it looks like the horses share the same winning spirit as the big man. In the last few years, Jokic has grown into one of the most dominant ballers on the court, ruling the hardwood with IQ and strength.
