The NBA is facing a major problem. The officiating this season has been highly controversial as the referees have frequently ejected the star players from games due to minor issues. Superstars have been booted from games for voicing their opinions about foul calls, celebrating too aggressively, or even clapping.

The trend continued tonight as 2-time MVP Nikola Jokic got ejected from the Nuggets-Bulls game for arguing about a missed foul call.

The Denver Nuggets faced off against the Chicago Bulls in the United Center. The game stirred controversy late in the second quarter as Nuggets star Nikola Jokic got ejected for arguing about a no-call. The Joker was upset about not receiving a foul call in his favor after Bulls Center Nikola Vucevic fouled him on a shot attempt. Jokic sprinted back on defense while chirping at the official. The referee was not pleased with Jokic’s actions and booted him from the game. The 2-time MVP was stunned, along with everyone else in the arena, as no one understood why he got ejected from the game.

Jokic did not have any prior technical fouls before that call. So, he got a double technical for arguing about a foul call. A similar thing happened a few weeks back during the Nuggets-Pistons game in Detroit. The 2-time MVP got tossed from the game in a controversial fashion for arguing about a missed foul call from the officials. The referees’ decisions this season have been so irrational that Nikola Jokic is even garnering sympathy from the opponent team’s announcers.

Chicago Bulls announcers defend Nikola Jokic

The Chicago Bulls announcers were shell-shocked after Nikola Jokic got ejected in the second quarter. They called the referees out for depriving the fans of watching the best players in the world play. The announcers defended The Joker and believed he had earned the right to argue about a call as the 2-time MVP. They called the referee’s decision “excessive”. That is the second time an opposite team’s announcers have spoken in defense of Jokic.

During the Nuggets-Pistons game on November 20, Jokic got tossed from the game for arguing with the official about a no-call. The Pistons announcers called out the officials of that game by names and claimed that the fans did not come to watch them. They also brought up the case of Giannis Antetokounmpo, who got ejected from a game for mean-mugging his opponent after a dunk.

The NBA is going leaps and bounds to make the league more interesting. They added the In-Season Tournament, which proved highly successful. But the officials are taking away from the excitement of the game by ejecting the best players in the world for no reason. Adam Silver might need to address this issue before the fans tune out once and for all.
