Things haven’t gone according to plan for Bronny James in his freshman year of college basketball. Immense hype and media attention surrounded Bronny once he decided to represent the University of Southern California in his collegiate basketball career. However, Bronny has cut a frustrated figure, as he has been sidelined to a bench role for the Trojans. Despite struggling in his freshman year, Bronny enjoyed a privilege that only a select few players have had.

Bronny James debuted a personalized edition of LeBron’s NXXT Gen basketball shoes. The shoes were customized to match the red and white color scheme of the USC Trojans. Furthermore, the pair featured Bronny’s #6 on the back and his signature on the tongue of the shoe. The pair also featured two reverse swooshes on the outside of the shoes. Bronny recorded 5 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist, and 1 block while wearing his new sneakers. Despite starting against the Arizona Wildcats, Bronny has played a bit of a reduced role for the Trojans this season.

In a reduced role, Bronny has averaged just 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 19.4 minutes of playing time. However, an injury to starting point guard, Boogie Ellis, has thrust Bronny back into the starting lineup. Yesterday, Bronny played a pivotal role in the USC Trojans’ 78-65 victory over the Arizona Wildcats. While Bronny only scored 5 points and grabbed 6 boards, his stout defending and intelligent plays proved instrumental in USC’s win.

Bronny receiving more playing time as a starter for USC could significantly benefit his burgeoning career. He has faced considerable scrutiny due to his recent underwhelming performances, which has also put his chances for the 2024 NBA Draft at risk.

Is Bronny James good enough for the NBA?

Man Bronny definitely better than some of these cats I’ve been watching on league pass today. S*** lightweight hilarious.” This is what LeBron James wrote in 2023. However, LeBron’s earlier remarks have backfired, as Bronny’s performances for USC have not lived up to expectations. Bronny’s start to his collegiate career has been so dreadful that ESPN has projected him to be a second-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, instead of the 2024 NBA Draft.
