The Nike-Jaylen Brown controversy hit new highs after the shoe-making company tweeted, “Nothing childish about ’em. 59 for the Greek Freak” after Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 59 points against the Detroit Pistons. From the tweet, you don’t need to be smart to understand Nike took a cheeky dig at the Celtics star after their infamous controversy.
It’s been an ongoing battle between the two for a long time since Brown supported Kyrie Irving during his spat with Nike. It all went to fifth gear with Brown labeling Giannis as a “child.” In the meantime, a Golden State Warriors player had something to say about it.

Let’s be honest, we all saw Giannis Antetokounmpo initiating banter with Jaylen Brown after he elbowed him in the game. Well, not like an elbow, but a hard foul where he stood in the post and turned around rapidly, inadvertently hitting Brown in the face. The headlines were made when Giannis offered a hand of apology but quickly took it away and brushed his head. Hence, Brown took offense and mentioned in a post-match presser, “Giannis is a child.”
It went back and forth with Giannis mentioning he does it with kids. Fans had divided opinions on those, as some saw the light side of the Greek Freak’s personality, while some labeled him as a ‘cheeky kid.’ After that, guess who came in to give an opinion on the incident? The one and only Draymond Green!
In his ‘The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis,’ both NBA icons discussed Giannis’ behavior in the incident. Green mentioned, “Giannis is a big a** kid for real man… When you look at that, when you look at the video, Damian Lillard giving him the shoes like most people who are with Nike would be like ahh I ain’t getting into that. He’s a signature athlete with Nike. Free shoes are free shoes.” It’s all fun and banter because you don’t expect a Nike-sponsored athlete to get Adidas shoes. But, hey, who doesn’t like free stuff?
Moreover, Green understood Jaylen’s perspective, saying, “I don’t say that in a way like, Jaylen was pissed. You right.” Baron Davis also believed Draymond Green would go head-to-head with Giannis if he pulled off something like that with him. In the same vein, Green pointed out another NBA icon who shared Antetokounmpo’s personality traits.

Draymond and LeBron James are good friends but don’t expect Draymond to shy away from speaking his mind, even about LeBron. He detailed, “So he calling him a child-like, I say that in a way of like Bron, for example. Bron is a big a** kid. People don’t realize. He is a big a** kid. Giannis to me, you know he always give this super serious and like ahrr. But like to me, it seemed like he is a big a** kid.”
Most times, fans call out LeBron James for going down on minimal contact and complaining about it in the aftermath. What’s the word we are looking for? Ah, flopping. LBJ may appear serious when things get hard, but he always manages to have fun, even in challenging situations. That’s probably how he is wired.

“Honestly, when you are that type of force, you kind of need some of that for the guys to cool follow. Because they need something to relate to,” as Green respects LeBron’s psyche and how it works round the clock.
In the end, Davis loved the banter between the two NBA stars, Jaylen Brown and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Who doesn’t like a bit of banter these days? It gives an edge over rivalries and makes the person compete better. Long may it continue!
