As we speak Dallas, expect some charged-up events. Dallas is lately, and we all know it. So much so that Nico Harrison had to call in personal security forces. While the city unwinds from its gut-wrenching break-up with Luka Doncic, the hostile atmosphere remains the same. Having Anthony Davis debut for your team is a big deal, but not in Dallas. Even the architect in chief of the move, Nico Harrison, was absent from the debut of the player he deems the central piece to their title chase. And it’s hard to imagine the name is not Luka Doncic.

There’s an upset for the Mavericks, but the majority of Dallas is grinning ear to ear, even at their own expense. The said misfortune is Anthony Davis’ injury. A groin issue has ruled the former Lakers star out of action for multiple weeks. While Doncic’s fitness was the headache of the franchise, leading to the ultimate parting of ways, the replacement they got has a history of the same as well. Now is that stupid? Or just plain and simple bad luck? The debate took over the latest episode of The Hoop Collective. One thing led to another, revealing that the nasty death threats aren’t limited to the Mavs GM.

Three media colleagues heatedly discussed Luka and AD’s injuries. With Brian Windhorst siding with Davis and Tim MacMahon sympathizing with the Doncic injury, deeming it “bad luck,” the debate reached its flash point. And then the big revelation came. MacMahon revealed that death threats were directed at Nico Harrison, and at him as well. The only difference is that he doesn’t have an expensive security team around him.

“Folks, the Mavericks have security that’s been at the highest level of American law enforcement. The threats did not raise themselves to where they felt like they needed to be reported to police,” the Dallas-based journalist said. He also highlighted that the Dallas Police told some “wannabe journalists” that they hadn’t received any such complaints, but the real picture was different. “I’ve heard from multiple sources that he’s received death threats. By the way, I’ve received a couple of death threats. I didn’t report them to the police, but this is how pissed off people are about this trade.”

Nico Harrison’s drastic measures come to light as Dallas remains furious over Doncic trade

Since the trade happened, things have only gone downward spiral for the Mavs front office. Somehow they’re hellbent on creating the narrative about Doncic being a problem, a bad professional. Oops, none of the former players or his teammates had anything bad to say about him. Not only that, Doncic was the same player who carried the franchise last season to the NBA Finals. And guess what? With a battered and bruised body! However, that wasn’t professional enough as the Mavs owner, Patrick Dumont, doubled down on the claims of the Slovenian being unprofessional. Not sure if he’s under security wraps yet, but Harrison is and has been maintaining extreme caution.

“I’m not up at the exits, but fans that I’ve heard from did say, hey, if you had a ‘fire Nico’ sign or T-shirts or any of that kind of stuff, the security was being a little bit un-American,” MacMahon said. The security is probably being overly forceful with the protesters at times, but no one has confirmed it from ground zero yet.

According to Harrison, the fans will forget once they start winning and ultimately reach the promised land. But with AD out on the treatment table, winning looks like a tough proposition for the next few weeks. If losses start to pile up, Harrison could draw even more backlash. Remember, his bold claim “Time will tell if I’m right.”? It is at significant risk of blowing up in his face. But, yes, it depends on which side the luck rolls.
