Despite the NBA trade deadline passing by about 2 weeks ago, fresh trade rumours for the summer have already started making headlines. Luka Doncic to LA Lakers trade might’ve caught the attention of the world for the current trade window, but Grizzlies guard Ja Morant is rumoured to be on the move in the summer of 2025.

The Doncic trade brought Dallas Mavericks GM Nico Harrison into the spotlight, but not in a good way. It was probably the best kept secret in the history of the NBA. Everyone woke up one morning to see the Mavs talisman linking up with LeBron James at the Crypto.com Arena- much to the dismay of the Mavs fanbase. Harrison was suddenly the poster boy of bad decision making. And according to the NBA community, his ‘disease’ is spreading everywhere in light of Ja Morant’s trade rumours.

An NBA executive told journalist Howard Beck about the Grizzlies potentially moving Ja Morant out of the city in the summer. He was quoted saying, “I’m constantly checking in with executives around trade deadline about like, okay, what we saw, what we didn’t see, what’s next, and in this league, you are always on the lookout for who’s the next wave of stars that are going to get dealt, right?… Somebody out of the blue said, keep an eye on Ja [Morant] this summer… I’m just saying it’s one of those things I’m just kind of keeping an eye on if they were to flame out early.”

Morant signed a 5-year, $197,230,450 contract with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2023, effectively keeping him in Tennessee till 2027. But his inability to remain fit for long term periods and off court discepancies might’ve tempted the Grizzlies to offload him this summer. “There has been so much growth on and off the court from the three of them and we are at a place now where they are here. They are at the heart of it, and we have a lot of belief in them,” said GM Zach Kleiman, so nothing can be confirmed about Ja’s movement at the moment. But he isn’t the only superstar in the NBA the Grizzlies are involved with in the trade rumours.

Kevin Durant trade rumours come to light

Phoenix Suns forward and NBA legend Kevin Durant makes the headlines yet again, but this time it’s not ’cause of making waves on the court. Before the deadline for the current trade window passed, KD was on the whole league’s list of potential incomings. His name was being thrown around social media like he was a Wilson himself.

The biggest and most probable rumour was a switch to the Memphis Grizzlies. They sit 2nd in the West, only trailing to an almost flawless OKC Thunder. Barring any complacency they do look likely of making the play-offs, but bringing in Durant would make them championship contendors. Kleiman made his stance clear on it though, saying “I think we have a group of guys in Ja, Des, and Jaren that star players would love to play with… For a star player, who at the end of the day, wants to win at the highest level, I’d put us up against anyone to be able to do that.” Guess that squashes that rumour.

Next on the list was a potential return to the Warriors. EasyMoneySniper’s only two championship dubs have come with the Bay Area reps, in the 2016-17 and the 2017-18 seasons. During that time he averaged 25.7 PPG, 7.5 RPG, and 5.1 APG, and was a focal point in the team besides Stephen Curry. But he has shut down a Chase Center reunion, citing that he might’ve ‘grown cold’ about playing for the Warriors again.

What’s your perspective on:

Could Ja Morant's rumored trade be the Grizzlies' biggest mistake or a smart move?

“As time went on, I started to realize I’m just different from the rest of the guys. It’s not a bad thing,” he said. “Just my circumstances and how I came up in the league. And on top of that, the media always looked at it like KD and the Warriors. So it’s like nobody could get a full acceptance of me there.” Curry seemingly has no hard feelings though, stating the utmost respect he has for his former teammate. “I respect KD. It’s all about having peace of mind and happiness. Neither one of us controlled that [trade] situation. It’s just you want to make sure somebody wants to be somewhere.”

No one knows if Ja Morant will be moved away from the Grizzlies. Fans are calling it the ‘Nico Harrison Disease’ if the move does materialise, but Grizzlies GM Zach Kleiman has made his feelings clear about both Ja and Kevin Durant’s trade situations. For the time being, both superstars remain where they are.
