We all know LeBron’s obsession with football. In an alternate universe, he would be a legendary NFL star. Unfortunately for them, James turned his complete attention to basketball. Even though his love for the sport continues, we probably won’t see him on the field. But the Timberwolves’ star guard, Anthony Edwards, seems to take over from where King James left off.
In a recent interview with Funny Marco, the “Ant-Man” opened up about his ambitions. We might be able to see Edwards sprinting down the field in the near future.

The 22-year-old NBA All-Star has a max contract extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves. With the goals of turning him into the face of the franchise and clinching a title, the team will not take any chances of losing him to injury. And football is a high-contact game. But this does not deter Edwards as he confirms, “I think I might be the first one.“

This would have probably given Tim Connelly a heart attack, if not for the promise he gives next. “As a team, [the] Minnesota [Timberwolves] organization, we want to win a championship,” he adds. Right now, Edwards’ main priority is to handle his “business in the NBA“, after which Ant is definitely going to change directions.
Hardcore football fans that the Americans are, it’s only natural that anyone with an inclination to go into sports would try their hand. Edwards was not any different. Playing running back, quarterback, and cornerback positions, he spent his early childhood days getting ready for an NFL draft.
Watching his brother play basketball pushed him to give that a try. Since then, basketball has been his complete focus. The result was a consensus five-star recruit and one of the top prospects of the 2019 class. If he is successful with the Wolves and decides to take up the NFL shortly thereafter, he will be following the path LeBron James wanted to take.
LeBron’s failed football career path is in safe hands
At the time when ‘the kid from Akron’ was making headlines with his football prowess, NFL fans were beyond excited thinking of the accolades LeBron James would bring. But when he decided to quit football after sophomore year, one story that quickly picked traction was the death of his favorite singer, Aaliyah.
Her death caused him to realize that living life scared wasn’t an option. Having absorbed much contact throughout the games, his mother wasn’t keen on letting him play. But Aaliyah’s influence certainly left a mark. Telling his mother the iconic line, “You’re not promised tomorrow,” James led his team to the State Semifinals.

Though the Akron Hammer finally decided to choose basketball, the NFL wasn’t done with him. During the 2011 lockout season, an NFL coach had offered him a contract. But he politely declined the offer on account of his health. So, what could have been another first in the long list of firsts in King James’ history, this one seems to have fallen into the capable hands of Anthony Edwards.
