Julius Randle suffered a dislocated right shoulder in a recent game against the Miami Heat. In the final quarter, Randle aggressively drove to the basket, leaping over Jaime Jaquez Jr. and landing on the ground. He immediately clutched his shoulder after the unusual landing and headed back to the locker room. Although X-rays didn’t reveal significant damage, Randle was diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder, prompting an MRI scheduled for the same night. As of now, the New York Knicks have not provided an update on Randle’s condition, but if it is indeed a dislocated shoulder, his absence could range between 1-4 months.
Considering the potential impact on their lineup, the Knicks may explore the trade market, especially with the deadline less than 10 days away. Knicks reporter Ian Begley recently indicated the team’s interest in Bruce Brown, who was recently traded to the Toronto Raptors from the Indiana Pacers. Additionally, they may also consider the experienced Harrison Barnes, who recently had a career night against his former Golden State Warriors team. With Julius Randle’s absence creating a significant void, the team can deviate from their previous stance of sticking together and avoiding venturing into the trade market.

The reporter suggested that the Knicks’ hesitance to provide significant updates on Randle could indicate an anticipation of his swift return. There is also a hope that Randle may opt to forgo surgery to contribute to the Knicks’ surge. However, in either scenario, the Knicks will soon release official information regarding the situation.

Can the Knicks hold without Julius Randle and the trade market?
Without Randle, the Knicks face a tough challenge to maintain their conference spot. Teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Indiana Pacers, and Orlando Magic can easily seize the opportunity. Randle’s impact is substantial on both ends of the court, and he often steps up in crucial moments, elevating the team’s performance. Furthermore, given that the season is rapidly approaching its midpoint, finding a replacement for Julius Randle seems nearly impossible.
However, the Knicks can explore reinforcements to complement their strong core by seeking a player versatile enough to cover both the paint and the wing. While there are a few players available in the market, none come close to matching Randle’s contributions.
