And it has finally happened! Karl-Anthony Towns is a Knick and you better believe it after the former Timberwolves star notched up 10 points in his first-ever start for the franchise. In the game against the Hornets, KAT contributed with 4 assists as well in the 15 minutes he played. And it was enough to convince ESPN’s Brian Windhorst that this team would be a menace for the rest of the league.
During the latest episode of NBA Today, the insider analyzed the Knicks vs Hornets game. Explaining what he learned from watching Tim Thibodeau’s men, Windy claimed, “When I watched this Knicks offense yesterday, I walked away going, this could be the number one offense in the league. It really could be if they stay healthy and they gel, which is gonna take some time, but it could happen.” Now that’s a warning the rest of the league could heed now that they’ve Karl-Anthony Towns in their ranks.

Pointing out KAT’s combination with Jalen Brunson, Windhorst also mentioned, “One of the things I love about it is that Brunson can score from all three levels…So when you come off the screen, you’re dealing with Towns, you give him any space, medium, tight, or whatever, he can finish.”
Highlighting the threat KAT possesses in screen plays, the insider claimed that the center can score 35. Adding Mikal Bridges, Precious Achiuwa and Josh Hart to that gives a dynamic offence which he believes can be the best in the league. Though Hart is ready to sacrifice some of his scoring to help the team, that still gives the Knicks 3 extremely potent options on the floor.
The general consensus around the league was the Timberwolves winning the trade with Donte DiVincenzo and Julius Randle. But that is a surprising assumption, to say the least, according to Windhorst.

Windhorst not buying into Timberwolves winning Karl-Anthony Towns trade theory
The Knicks had to sacrifice Donte DiVincenzo, Julius Randle along with a future first-round draft pick to get the Timberwolves on board by trading their valuable asset, Karl-Anthony Towns. Considering the 3:1 asset ratio and the potential possessed by the former Knicks, many believed that the T’Wolves were the gainers, which amazed Windhorst.
Talking to the show’s host Malika Andrews a couple of days ago, he expressed his astonishment over the matter. “I was kind of surprised over the last week at how many executives I talked to who felt like the Timberwolves won this trade, which is not something you would expect to hear when most people would agree the best player in the trade went to the Knicks,” the 46-year-old added.

He further detailed that most of them were possibly impressed by how the Wolves could use them to strengthen their core roster. Given the salary cap issue with the Timberwolves, KAT was the obvious choice to be sacrificed as a trade piece, but no one anticipated the escalation of the situation. Chris Finch refused to comment on the trade during the Wolves media day and there was absolutely no word from the Minnesota front office regarding the trade.
It’s still too early to predict what the new season will unfold, but the Knicks’ narrow win shows enough promise. The anticipation for a championship run is at an all-time high in New York and come May everyone will have a clear answer as to who ultimately won the trade.
