The NBA In-Season Tournament has officially taken off with the Indiana Pacers vs Cleveland Cavaliers game. Watching how much success the in-season had with the WNBA, Silver, in a last-ditch attempt to garner viewership, announced the same for the NBA. Anyway, the expectations and reactions for the start of the new tournament were promising.
It comes with new looks for the players as well as the courts. And that’s where the league is getting the backlash now. Getting the new look at the courts has been chaotic, to say the least. Fans have taken to the internet to voice their displeasure.

Each team of the NBA gets its own unique court for the period of the tournament. The start of this season has seen a lot of changes in the league. From PPP to the media rights and the in-season, Adam Silver definitely has the attention of the NBA world. Unfortunately, not all the attention is favourable.
The first look at the courts has fans crying out in dismay. And they are not keeping quiet about the fact.
This might be the worst court I’ve ever seen 😭 pic.twitter.com/6XyEjVqAra

One is thinking of taking the case to court because of the colors, “needs to be fired and sued my eyes hurt watching this”

Another user has deemed that the new look warrants more than just words.

You know what they say; a picture is worth a thousand words. And this one takes the cake. Another user seems to be really mad at the latest changes. Despite all of Silver’s efforts, this fan is disappointed in exactly all of that.
Lebron is really the only thing keeping me an NBA fan. Can’t watch my local team on YouTube TV, this in-season tournament is lame, the courts suck, games start 35 minutes after the scheduled tipoff. Just a lame product

Yet another user is indignant at the choice of colors and material. He made it clear that if he’s going to watch any game, it will be on “beige hardwood.”
is the nba serious with the in-season tournament courts? i’m a grown ass man… i’m not watching any basketball played on anything but beige hardwood #traditionalist

These comments are but a few of many and somewhat on a moderate level. There are a lot of others who are practically ripping the league into pieces. So how is this going to impact the NBA regular season now?
NBA regular season and in-season tournament
Adam Silver is the NBA Commissioner for a reason. A long-time fan of European soccer, Silver has been toying with the idea for a while now. Using the cup tournaments as an inspiration for the NBA in-season tournament, Commissioner Adam has been careful to integrate it into the regular season.

Traditionally, the league releases an 82-game schedule by mid-August. This time, it is only 80 games, with a gap from December 3-10. Now this is where Silver’s brilliance comes into play. The final two regular-season games of each team are determined by how the in-season will pan out. So, the 22 teams that do not end up in the knockout rounds will have to play against other teams eliminated in the group play on December 6 and 8.

So, the teams that lose in the semi-final will have completed their quota of 82 games. And those who go forward to the NBA In-Season Tournament Finals will end up playing an extra game, bringing their total to 83. By making the in-season part of the regular season, the teams and players will now have an added push to bring out their A game. Brilliant, is it not?
