Did Stephen Curry's awkward first kiss with Ayesha set the stage for their unbreakable bond?

Carl Sagan nailed it when he said, “For small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love.” Honestly, isn’t that just the perfect way to describe Stephen Curry and his wife Ayesha? These two have been together for over two decades, but their love still feels like a rom-com in the making. It’s fresh, it’s real, and it’s the kind of vibe that makes you curious—what were their early days really like?

Ayesha and Steph’s love story began in 2003. They first met as teens at a church youth group in Charlotte. Ayesha revealed that Steph was the “cute guy” every girl was obsessed with in the church. But the two didn’t start dating till 2008 when they reconnected in LA. Funny enough, Ayesha had a strict “no athletes” rule back then. Safe to say, fate had other plans for her!

Meanwhile, Stephen Curry fondly remembers their first date in 2008. He shared the sweet memory with Dude Perfect, taking fans back in time. “Me and my wife Ayesha, on our first date—we went skeet shooting,” the Baby-Faced Assassin recalled. That’s quite an interesting activity for a first date. Who would’ve thought picking up shotguns and targeting clay targets could create such an everlasting bond? People are surely taking notes, because, well- you should!

Have an interesting take?

As you know, Stephen Curry met his future wife Ayesha as a kid in a church youth group in 2003. They didn’t reconnect or start going out until 2008 when both were in LA. Ayesha was there to pursue a career in acting and fashion. Meanwhile, Curry was in town to attend the ESPYs- just so you know, he won the award for Breakout Athlete that year! But back then, Ayesha thought athletes were arrogant so she didn’t want to date one, but destiny was planning something else.

Steph and Ayesha had their first date shortly after reconnecting in ’08. On Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2019, Mrs. Curry shared that she picked Stephen Curry on her “’98 Astro van.” And, they went to Hollywood Boulevard, visited Madame Tussauds, and got chai tea lattes. How cute is that? Meanwhile, in 2020, she told PEOPLE more about that day. She called Steph “So funny and silly. The absolute opposite of what I thought he was going to be.”

However, their first kiss didn’t go as smoothly. It was rather … awkward. Ayesha Curry told the New York Post: “He was mid-conversation and came flying at my face like a thief in the night,” she said. “So I was, like, No.” Then I thought, ‘Oh, I didn’t know this is what was happening.'” You cannot truly call Stephen Curry’s first dating experience a bumpy start in particular. But surely, it did create an unbreakable bond that his fans thoroughly love.

And even after all these years, the couple has kept their bond very dynamic. Stephen Curry and Ayesha Curry are the duo that makes you giggle and kick your feet in sheer adoration. What began as just a regular interaction in church evolved into something more—a tale straight out of a rom-com script!
