In just the initial stages of Round 2, the 2023 FIBA World Cup has already witnessed some surprising turn of events. Team Germany handed a shocking defeat to favorites, Luka Doncic and Team Slovenia to remain unbeaten in the tournament. However, this may not have been possible without the services of their star point guard, Dennis Schroder.

The Toronto Raptors guard has balled out for his national side, contributing heavily to their dominance in the tournament so far. However, while Team Germany thrashed the Slovenian contingent, Dennis Schroder dealt with a shocking scuffle mid-game. This fight involving the 29-year-old has now caught the attention of the basketball world.

Dennis Schroder has been instrumental in Team Germany’s success in the FIBA World Cup this year. While the entire team have played terrific basketball throughout, Schroder’s contributions have elevated their performance to a different level. However, this did not stop Team Germany’s coach from disciplining the Raptors guard mid-game.

Tensions flared during Team Germany’s encounter with Team Slovenia as the German contingent found themselves trailing 11-16 in the first quarter. With 4:03 left on the clock, Team Germany’s head coach called a timeout. This is where it all went down.

Schroder was seen having a one-on-one chat with fellow NBA player, Daniel Theis during the timeout. However, Team Germany’s head coach, Gordon Herbert seemed frustrated with Schroder’s actions. He attempted to pull Schroder while yelling “f***ing sit down.” Schroder resisted his coach’s behavior by saying “Calm down, Coach.” but when Herbert wouldn’t stop, he retaliated by saying “You’re not going to touch me like that. Never touch me like that.”

Despite this heated interaction, Schroder returned to the game and put up yet another sensational performance. The German national scored 24 points and 10 assists to hand Luka Doncic and the Slovenian contingent a humiliating defeat. However, his altercation with the coach caught the attention of the basketball world. They shared their reactions to the incident while also questioning NBA players’ toughness.

Schroder’s actions raise questions about NBA players’ toughness

While Dennis Schroder stood up for himself against Team Germany’s head coach, the basketball world did not seem pleased with his actions. They felt that the Raptors guard did not exert toughness towards his coach’s remarks. They shared their thoughts regarding this scuffle, taking to the comments section.

Fans wrote “Just listen to your coach, all them nba players are soft even when there coach is talking to them” while venting out their frustration towards Schroder’s actions. Some fans added to this, saying “people soft asf nowadays, coach told you sit down, you sit down.”

Furthermore, users called the 29-year-old entitled, saying “Entitled players not listening to their coach. Typical.” However, some fans lent their support to Schroder’s actions. “Scream all you want. Put your hands on me, and the penalties will be offsetting.” they said. Additionally, fans mentioned “He a vet …. Coach should be happy to have him play for his country …. How dare u grab a player that does this to represent his country ….”
