The summer of 2024 was a special one, with the Paris Olympics unfolding in all its glory. Among the 126 medals Team USA racked in the event, Jrue Holiday contributed with his gold. But the biggest show in the world was a family matter to the Celtics guard. The experience was an unforgettable one for the 34-year-old, and a major credit goes to Simone Biles and the track & field team. How exactly? That’s what Holiday revealed during his latest appearance on Run It Back.
Jrue Holiday made a guest appearance on the show and when it was time to keep aside the basketball talk, he made the major revelation. Talking about his experience in Paris, Holiday credited the Ohio-born Olympian. “I gotta spend it with my family. And y’all know I have a big family. I got a couple of brothers in the league, and my wife played soccer,” Holiday said. That’s how he got to experience the event, as a fan and an athlete. “But to experience it with my kids, to take my daughter to see Simone Biles, to go see track and field, to experience the Eiffel Tower with my parents. And, my family was as those are memories that, they just never go away.”
As mentioned by Holiday, sports runs in his family. His wife, Lauren, is a former USWNT soccer star with two Olympic gold medals to her name. His brothers, Justin and Aaron Holiday also shared the court with the two-time NBA champion. During the Paris Olympics, the USA Basketball men’s team attended the women’s gymnastics individual all-around final to watch Simone Biles and Suni Lee compete. Stephen Curry, Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Jrue Holiday were present in the stands to cheer on their compatriots on the track. Holiday took his daughter, Tyler, along and surely, the performance of the Olympians left a lasting impression on the young one.

The two-time All-Star’s words provide a clear picture of him being a family man. His family is a source of inspiration for his on-court success which Holiday wholeheartedly accepts and embraces.
Jrue Holiday credits his family and faith for his on-court success
Jrue Holiday is a part of one of the rarest NBA stories. In the league’s history, only six times a set of three brothers have played the NBA, and the Holidays are one of them. So when he won his second NBA championship, it was a special moment for his parents. “It’s a blessing. What a wonderful opportunity at our age: we come into a stadium and watch our child step into his strength. It’s nice … We’re going to go home and talk about this all night,” Holiday’s mother, Toya, said after his game 2 heroics in the 2024 NBA Finals.
Knowing the heritage his family has created, the 34-year-old takes pride in it and reveals how the family has a group chat where it’s about inspiring one another through thick and thin. “That kind of humbles us, knowing that not that many families have the same type of experience. Every chance we get, we are really positive about that. It’s a blessing from God,” Holiday said in an interview.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Jrue Holiday's success more about talent or the strong family support system behind him?
Have an interesting take?
According to Holiday’s father, Shawn, his kids had their lives shaped by faith, and stopped them from wandering into a path of rebellion. Given his all-for-one and one for all attitude that embodies the current Celtics side, his humbleness only adds to the team’s bonding. Will his kids follow in his footsteps and extend the family legacy further? The chances are high as we just might see Tyler Holiday competing in the track & field one day representing the nation, thanks to the inspiration she received from Biles.
