Finally, a dominant win for the Warriors! They headed into last night’s Bulls clash hoping to end their two-game losing streak. While the competition was neck and neck in the opening half, Stephen Curry and Co. pulled away in the third quarter and never looked back. But there was one major concern that jeopardized their massive lead and had Bay Area announcers slamming the game officials on Live TV.
The incident occurred nearly midway through the final quarter. Getting a fastbreak opportunity after a missed shot by the Warriors, Zach LaVine attacked the rim for a layup. As all great defenders would do, Moses Moody ran back to cut the high flyer’s lane and stop him from scoring, leading to a minor collision. Sure enough, the official blew the whistle and called a foul on Moody, leaving him in utter disbelief.
Even the NBC announcers were left fuming and went on a brutal rant against the refs, “See, they keep giving him those calls where the defender is just kind of backing up and Moses Moody is going ‘What am I supposed to do here?’ They’re rewarding Lavine.” Well, they might have raised a solid point because the Warriors got called for 21 personal fouls as compared to Bulls’ sixteen. Moreover, LaVine got a game-high twelve free throw attempts which resulted in nine additional points for his team.

The announcers defended Moody, saying, “What is Moody supposed to do? He’s giving ground. His arms are up. He’s retreating and the guy bumps into you. You can’t ever play defense if that is constantly gonna be free throws.” Reiterating that they don’t agree with the call, the Bay Area veterans highlighted that around the same time last year, the officials let similar calls go and it resulted in “better basketball” games. “It should just be a no call. Because not every collision, not every contact is a foul… Noone wants to see a game with a million free throws.” They remarked.
However, sitting at the announcers’ desk, all they could do was complain about it. The power still lies with the referees and the league office to determine how they want to officiate games. And the veteran commentators urged Stephen Curry and Co. to take advantage of the situation instead of falling victim to it.

Bay Area announcers warn the Warriors of “giving away” lead, urge them to take advantage of Refs’ whistle
Sure, it did not look like the Warriors had anything to worry about when LaVine went to the charity stripes, because they were already up by 23 points. However, they know very well that no lead is safe in the NBA, and it was evident when they lost against the Kings in the last game. So, the announcers warned them, “You’ve put the Bulls into the bonus with over seven minutes left in this game. That’s the way you give away leads. Now they have a big lead which is nice, but that’s not something you wanna tempt fate with.”
In response to the questionable call against Moody, they wanted Steve Kerr’s squad to use the officials’ calls in their favor. “if you’re the Warriors, okay make it work to your advantage. Go in there, seek out some contact for yourselves. You get to the free throw line.” Well, that’s what great teams do. See how the game is being called and adjust to the situation. But the Warriors could only get to the free throw line fourteen times. Fortunately, they did not miss even once. And that was enough to win them the game. However, the same issue could cost them in close games and they need to be more adaptable, like the announcers advised. Do you agree?
