Is the heartfelt gesture in NBA 2K25 enough to overshadow Stephen Curry's recent controversy?

It would seem like the NBA 2K25 is hellbent on providing a complete immersive experience for the Warriors fans. The latest update on the Steph Era will only add to the amazing new features 2K Sports announced earlier. While Stephen Curry and the Dubs aren’t the same without their core group intact, one thing that hasn’t changed is the main man himself. Coming up huge (out of this world, even. So much so, he had to take a drug test after the Olympic win), the ‘Bay Area God’ showcased why he’s the greatest three-point shooter all over again. But the Golden State faithful would say that there was still something missing.

For a GSW game to come full circle, Matt Hurwitz’s voice is a must. Although the dynasty and their long-time PA announcer parted ways in 2018, 2K Sports brought in the veteran San Franciscan for the ultimate fan experience in the Steph Era. Their latest X update already has the fans giddy with excitement!

“It wouldn’t be the Stephen Curry Era without Matt Hurwitz on the PA mic. Play games in the all-new Curry Era in #NBA2K25 and listen for the longtime Warriors PA Announcer, Matt Hurwitz’ iconic voice echoing for Golden State’s home games!” NBA 2K announced in their latest update on X.

Hurwitz’s entry into the world of public announcing was a happy accident. Nevertheless, taking full advantage of his innate talents and majoring in speech communication, Matt became ‘the voice’ of the Golden State Warriors. And the timing couldn’t have been more perfect.

Amid the happy news, recent Stephen Curry controversy seems to have been forgotten

No, don’t worry. Steph and his family are perfectly fine. The controversy we mentioned is more along the lines of ratings in NBA 2K. Yes, Father Time is indeed trudging forward, but so far the 35-year-old has been playing like his usual self. However, the stats might tell a different story. After the 2022-23 season, during which he averaged 29.4 points and shot 42.7% from downtown, the 2K24 rating saw him rank third with a 96 overall score.

However, the 2K25 list shows the 4x champion taking another dip in terms of overall rating. Of course, the 10x All-Star is among the Top 10 players, but he fell to the seventh rank with a 95 overall rating. Since the NBA 2K25 is slated to release on September 6, they have been releasing their top 100 players on social media over the past week. Needless to say, it resulted in a lot of unhappy fans.

What’s your perspective on:

Is the heartfelt gesture in NBA 2K25 enough to overshadow Stephen Curry's recent controversy?

Have an interesting take?

However, the dip could have been because of his performance last season. It was a terribly rough patch for the Warriors as a whole and Steph Curry in particular. For one, his scoring dropped from 29.4 to 26.4 points per game. Not to mention, his rebounding and assist numbers also saw a downhill graph. But if the Olympic performance was also taken into consideration, then the ratings would surely end up being controversial.

Anyway, the appearance of Matt Hurwitz seems to have done a world of good. And at the right time, too. Well, what do you think of this new feature to the NBA 2K25 Steph Era? Let us know in the comments.
