The 2023-24 season for the Golden State Warriors is unfolding differently than they had anticipated. Initially, there were speculations about Draymond Green potentially disrupting their formidable trio. However, retaining him raised questions about Klay Thompson‘s future, given the absence of a contract extension. As the season has progressed, the team, equipped with championship-winning pieces, appears to be adrift, falling short of their expected caliber. Furthermore, seasoned superstars on the roster have shown little to no spark, resulting in a disappointing 17-19 record and prompting a call for significant changes before the trade deadline.

This has sparked discussions about ending the over-a-decade-long partnership of Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry. Curry is the face of the franchise and the team’s standout performer. This leaves Klay vulnerable, especially since he is in the last season of a substantial five-year contract.

Approaching the trade deadline, the Warriors are keen on retooling around their seasoned core. The intriguing question looming is how they will navigate this and which pieces they will pursue. Adding to the intrigue, the name of Dejounte Murray has surfaced as a potential trade target for the Dubs.

It comes as no shock that the Warriors would express interest in Murray. Stephen Curry has been bearing the burden of the squad for almost the entire season. Furthermore, with CP3 now out for some time, Murray’s young and emerging talent holds the potential to help Steph on the court.

Currently, Murray is merely a potential target for the Warriors. However, given the franchise’s history and its penchant for making impactful and standout moves, it’s almost certain that the team will soon astonish the NBA world with a headline-grabbing trade.

The Atlanta Hawks find themselves languishing in the lower ranks of their conference, a far cry from their playoff aspirations for the season. As the halfway mark approaches, they, much like the Warriors, are on the hunt for crucial missing pieces to propel them toward their playoff objective.

However, given the fact that Murray is a point guard, the chances of the Warriors trading for him seem dismal. The Warriors have already had a point guard issue to address since the beginning of the season with Chris Paul and Stephen Curry. With that, questioning Murray’s fit with the Warriors becomes immediate.

Despite his youth coupled with numerous breakout performances, Murray relies on operating with the ball to be at his best self on the court. It is not something the Warriors would want to do. Furthermore, Murray is a nifty on-ball defender, a quality that Golden would not skip on, given their record and their ambition with the season.
