“And so Kevin, look, he had a tremendous season…. Right now we’re just trying to figure out how to collectively move this team forward,” said Suns general manager James Jones, when asked where Phoenix stands with Durant, during the end-of-season press conference. The same remarks highlighted that the team will pursue some changes going forward, and KD has every chance of being served on a silver platter for teams with the right offer.

After all, upon finishing 11th in the West with a 36-46 record, not even the star player could avoid a trade, just as Mike Budenholzer couldn’t have avoided the firing. As a result, the star veteran has been linked with several teams in the last few weeks. Now, another contender has come up, one that will combine veteran experience with young prowess.

According to NBA Central and The Stein Line’s Jake Fischer, rumors have linked Kevin Durant with the San Antonio Spurs. As of now, whether the veteran would join Victor Wembanyama and co is nothing but “whispers”.

The rumors about Kevin Durant come at the same time when another player has been linked to a $3.85 billion franchise, the Spurs: Giannis Antetokounmpo. As Jake Fischer said during a recent podcast episode, “San Antonio is definitely going to be, without a doubt, a team that is looking to continue to upgrade and add talent around Victor Wembanyama. We’re already seeing the process happen… We’re seeing them make a move and go out and get the guard (De’Aaron Fox) that they were looking for.”

As highlighted by Last Word On Sports, the 15x All-Star’s main focus, at this time, would be to simply be more successful. He needs to be on a promising team that’ll be taken seriously, and be maximized individually. Victor Wembanyama is a rising star. He is still in the early process of transforming the Spurs into a championship-contending team. Durant is someone who Wemby respects, as he once said, “He’s my youth icon”, and “I made it clear to him that I wanted to learn from him and perhaps steal one or two of his secret techniques”.

Furthermore, a team-up would allow the creation of the next Big 3 in the NBA (Durant, Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox). Therefore, Durant could view San Antonio as a legitimate destination. NBA reporter Quenton S. Albertie believes Kevin Durant being convinced of the $3.85 billion franchise‘s worthiness is the team’s biggest obstacle. However, the Suns’ front office might be able to work around that. After all, due to San Antonio’s cache of first-round picks, the trade package could be made enticing enough. The players might not be used on the court that much. However, the picks received from San Antonio could be used for any future transactions.

From the looks of it, Kevin Durant has a big transition heading his way. One hopes that the player does not become too overwhelmed. After all, shifting to the Spurs won’t be the only big move of his this year.

Kevin Durant’s Boardroom signed an extension deal with MLB

While the Durant-Spurs rumors were running rampant, the Phoenix Suns star occupied the headlines thanks to a confirmed move. Durant’s sports and media company, Boardroom, had earlier announced a new partnership with Major League Baseball (MLB). After the previous $550 million fallout with ESPN, this signing marks the first major deal the MLB has secured.

As highlighted by the official page of the MLB, the new partnership builds on the successful 2024 collaboration between Boardroom and the sports league. The deal is set to “deliver new immersive fan experiences, groundbreaking activations and player-led storytelling across multiple platforms.”

As MLB CMO Uzma Rawn said, “This collaboration is about more than just events — it’s about reimagining how we connect with a growing baseball audience in innovative ways. Boardroom’s unique ability to tell compelling stories at the intersection of sports, entertainment, and culture aligns perfectly with our mission to drive more dynamic and engaging opportunities for players and fans alike. After seeing their incredible work over the past year, we’re proud to expand our relationship.”

Co-owned by Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman, Boardroom has been focusing on the intersection of sports, entertainment, and business since its establishment back in 2019. Boardroom’s media arm is responsible for producing daily and weekly newsletters, along with exclusive premium content that highlights the business acumen of athletes, executives, musicians, and creators. According to reports, Boardroom’s network has reached over 52 million unique visitors each month.

Working to deliver unique content in compliance with the deal signed with MLB, Kevin Durant now has another major responsibility on his shoulders. Let’s hope the stress of it does not hamper the potential decision whether to join the San Antonio Spurs or not.
