In the high-stakes world of NBA trades, every move can redefine a franchise’s trajectory. With the Golden State Warriors striving to balance their aging championship core and future flexibility, whispers of potential blockbuster deals have emerged. Needless to say, the trade rumor mill is heating up from now itself. The Lakers need some young guns to complement AD and LeBron. Most big teams are in desperate need of an upgrade to their roster. And it’s just starting to feel like Rob Pelinka is seemingly behind.

At 10-14, and in the most comfy-est of positions (trade-wise), the Nets sit 8th in the East, navigating a challenging season after parting with All-Star Mikal Bridges this past summer. The Brooklyn team’s focus has shifted toward a rebuild, and the buzz around potential trades is growing louder. It’s like they’re laying the groundwork for a fresh start, keeping options open for reshaping their roster.

Shams Charania of ESPN reports that the Nets are considering trade options for Cam Johnson, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Dennis Schroder. Mike Dunleavy has shown interest in all 3, with rival teams speculating they might use De’Anthony Melton’s $12.8 million expiring contract and draft picks to secure a deal. The Nets trio were reportedly linked to the Lakers before this. Their combined salary for the 2024-25 season comes to $51.5 million. It seems like a bargain when compared to Jimmy Butler for 3 younger players.

According to a mock trade via Brett Siegel, in exchange, the Nets would receive Andrew Wiggins, De’Anthony Melton, and a slew of future picks: Golden State’s 2025 and 2027 first-round picks (unprotected), a 2026 second-round pick (via GSW), a 2029 first-round swap (more favorable to Brooklyn), and a 2030 second-round pick (unprotected). Moses Moody could also be part of this package (depending on Schroder’s inclusion or not).

This deal could be a game-changer, with Brooklyn securing future assets for a rebuild and Golden State looking to load up for a run at another championship. It’s like the NBA version of a high-stakes poker game, where both sides are betting on the future.

Golden State sits fifth in the West with a 14-9 record, but the standings are tight—just three games separate them from 12th place. Since their 2022 championship, the Warriors haven’t found consistent success. In 2023, they finished 44-38 and exited in the second playoff round. Despite a 46-36 record next season, they stumbled in the play-in tournament.

This trade buzz might just be the Bay Area side’s attempt to recapture the magic that made them dominant not too long ago.

Steve Kerr’s offense thrives on speed and versatility, and these three players could fit that mold perfectly. Adding them might put the Warriors back in serious title contention, but it all depends on the cost. If Golden State finds a way to make this work without gutting their roster, it could be a game-changer for the season. Or will it be Rob Pelinka who robs Steve Kerr of this chance?

Can the Warriors' gamble on Cam Johnson reignite their championship hopes, or is it too late?

Have an interesting take?

Can the Warriors snag Cam Johnson before Rob Pelinka makes his move?

Cam Johnson is making waves in the NBA trade market. With averages of 18.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists, he’s impressively shooting 48.8% from the field and 43.4% from three. Per Evan Sidery on X, Memphis Grizzlies, Orlando Magic, Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Lakers, and Golden State Warriors are all eyeing him. More teams could jump in as trade talks heat up.

A 6-foot-8 sharpshooter like Johnson is rare, and his shooting accuracy from deep is a standout skill. Brooklyn would face a tough loss if they moved him. Johnson, now in his seventh NBA season, was selected by the Phoenix Suns in the 2019 draft and then traded to the Nets in 2022. He’s been playing arguably the best basketball of his career in recent weeks.

Picture the Warriors with Steph Curry, Buddy Hield, and Cam Johnson—a potential championship contender. Or imagine him as a perfect floor spacer next to Ja Morant in Memphis. But he’d also look good alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Reports have made it clear that the LA team is actively searching for ways to help JJ Redick and his roster improve. So, wherever Cam ends up, his future looks bright, as long as he’s used right by his coach, which would be tough to mess up.

Johnson’s combination of size and shooting ability has made him a coveted trade asset. As the trade deadline approaches, it’s clear that the 28-year-old’s value will only continue to rise, shaping the next chapter of his promising career.
