The clock is ticking. And Rob Pelinka is yet to find a solution to the Lakers’ biggest problem. “We know we have a need for a big,” he acknowledged during Luka Doncic’s introductory presser. But it looks like the GM is running short of options as another massive trade might have taken three potential targets off the market.
As per veteran insider Shams Charania, the Pelicans and Raptors have agreed to a deal that sends Brandon Ingram to Toronto. In return, the New Orleans franchise gets Bruce Brown Jr., Kelly Olynyk, one first-round pick, and one second-rounder.
Well, Brandon Ingram was on the trade block for quite some time as the Pelicans were unwilling to offer him his desired extension. As of now, he has not suited up since early December because he is dealing with a sprained left ankle. Sure, Ingram is not a traditional big like the Lakers want, but the forward’s 6’8 frame could have helped them tackle the size issue. Moreover, he is an elite player when healthy, averaging 19.5 points and over five rebounds in his career.

Meanwhile, Brown was also expected to be traded amid his expiring contract. And the LA franchise was among those interested in acquiring the former champion. However, he might not be the piece they currently need as they are stacked at the guard position. Obviously, the move that hurts Pelinka the most is Kelly Olynyk.

At 6’11 with an incredible shooting stroke and defensive ability, Olynyk would have been an ideal fit for the Lakers’ needs. Unfortunately, the chances of acquiring him now look bleaker than ever. But Pelinka might no longer be bothered by this trade as he has made a blockbuster move of his own!
Rob Pelinka strikes gold in “Dry” Market as Lakers trade Dalton Knecht
Pelinka recently made a shocking confession about the market being dry for bigs. “The market for bigs right now leading into the last two or three days of the trade deadline is very dry. There’s just not a lot available.” But for a GM who can acquire Luka Doncic out of thin air, nothing is impossible.

Sure enough, he has worked his magic once again as the latest report reveals that the Lakers have agreed to a trade with the Hornets to bring in Center Mark Williams. Yes, the seven-foot big man, who is averaging 16 points and nearly ten rebounds at 23-years-old.

Well, this solves the Lakers’ size issue as Williams is a perfect fit alongside Luka and LeBron. Obviously, Pelinka had to pay a hefty price to get him.

Turns out, he is sending Cam Reddish, a 2031 unprotected first-round pick, a 2030 pick swap, and most shockingly, star rookie Dalton Knecht to Charlotte. As surprising as it sounds, the deal might turn the LA franchise into legitimate title contenders right away, while securing their future. What are your thoughts?
