It did not take long for Dillon Brooks to get back to his old antics. Brooks made his debut for the Houston Rockets in their NBA preseason opener against the Indiana Pacers on October 10. Hours after Dillon Brooks got ejected in his debut for the Rockets, the NBA slapped a massive $25,000 fine on the 27-year-old guard. Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President and head of Basketball Operations, announced the fine on Brooks for recklessly making contact with Indiana Pacers Center Daniel Thies in the groin area. Although Brooks? act against Daniel Thies did seem intentional and unnecessary, there is a slight possibility that the severity of the punishment was because of his bad reputation in the league.

Brooks was asked after his ejection if he was being targeted by the referees. ?What?s my name? My name is Dillon the Villain. So, I guess.? Brooks replied, affirming the notion. That is not the first time Dillon Brooks has faced the consequences of his actions.

Dillon The Villain

Dillon Brooks accepted his villain role when he faced LeBron James and Co. in last season?s playoffs. Brooks trash-talked the 4-time NBA Champion after helping the Memphis Grizzlies win Game 2 in the first round. He disrespected King James, calling him ?old? and adding, ?I poke bears?. Dillon?s trash talk backfired as he got ejected in Game 3 for hitting LeBron in the groin area. The Los Angeles Lakers went on to win the game and eventually eliminate the Memphis Grizzlies from the playoffs. Dillon immediately became a ?villain? in the NBA, and his antics led to the Grizzlies parting ways with him.

Despite his bad reputation, Brooks bagged a massive 4-year $80 million contract with the Houston Rockets this off-season. The fans and Houston Front Office expected Brooks to move away from his ?villain? role and focus on his on-court performance. Unfortunately, the guard showed no signs of improvement in his Houston Rockets debut. Brooks has a chance for a fresh start in Houston. But if he chooses to stay on the same path he was on in Memphis, it might adversely affect his NBA career in the long run.
