With the NBA trade deadline only a month away,  Pascal Siakam is among the major names being floated. This is because free agency is looming over him as his contract with the Raptors ends. Among the major teams opting to trade for the two-time All-Star, the Golden State Warriors are the chief candidate. The 2019 NBA champion could solve many of the Dubs’ ongoing roster issues and may even provide hope for a comeback late in the season.

However, the Dubs have another letdown as Siakam has other plans for himself. In a recent post on X (formerly known as Twitter) by @BasketballonX it seems to clear the Cameroonian’s stance on free agency and it doesn’t look too good for the Warriors. The caption states, “He will not give a verbal commitment whatsoever… with the Pacers, the Hawks, the Kings, the Warriors or any other team that trades for him. He wants to test out free agency.”

The 29-year-old this season has had a stable average of 22.2 points, 4.9 assists and 6.3 rebounds a game. The stability that someone like Siakam offers is specifically what the Warriors need right now because things aren’t looking too good for them. Even if somehow a trade is worked out between Raptors stars and the Dubs, it is quite a hurdle for them to actually acquire him.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Warriors would have to sign the Siakam for a max contract, and with their current roster, things would look quite drastic. “Pascal Siakam is going to have a lot of voice about where he’s going to get traded because he’s going to be a free agent this summer,” Wojnarowski said. He further added, “And so, if you are trading for Pascal Siakam, you have to be ready to max him out, you’ve got to know he wants to be there and you have to have a package out there that makes sense for Toronto.”

This means either trading one of their main players in either emerging star Jonathan Kuminga or giving up one of their core members like Draymond Green or Klay Thomspon. Now, whether anybody from the core group is traded or not depends entirely on what the front office feels is the best for the team. And if one were to go by recent rumors, the possibility of Thompson or Green leaving seems likely.
