It’s been a day since the LA Clippers were eliminated by the Dallas Mavericks. With the next season not expected to commence soon, rumors have been swirling about the changes that the franchise could undertake. Amidst the gossip, speculation is rising that point guard Russell Westbrook, who joined the team only in 2023, will now choose to exit. However, judging from his recent social media post, he admitted to “hoping for a different outcome” but made his intentions very clear.
A couple of minutes ago, the NBA player took to his official Instagram account to share a few words with his 23 million followers. He provided his thoughts about his time with the Clippers against the opinions currently floating from various media outlets. He explained, “It’s a difficult time for a lot of people due to certain expectations that have been placed” on the roster during the regular season. While his hope of securing the Championship title faltered, Westbrook stated he has enjoyed his time with the franchise till now. And that he attempted to bring a ‘spark’ in the team by working hard to his full potential.
“I felt that I was and remain more than willing to take on new roles, and make certain sacrifices in hope that it would make our team better,” said the Clippers player. “I hoped for a different outcome, but I also enjoyed being in the trenches with my teammates this year who have all been supportive of me throughout this season”. On a final note, Westbrook expressed his desire to “come back better, stronger” and be granted a role that would put him and the Clippers in a winnable position next season.

Because of making a transition to a new team, Russell Westbrook’s performance wasn’t up to the mark like previous seasons. In 68 games, he secured an average score of 11.1 points, 5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists. Furthermore, being positioned as the 6 man, his role with the Clippers allegedly held much lesser importance than previous ones. It didn’t help the team that he had been absent from the main lineup for some time after sustaining an injury. Judging from his remarks, the 35-year-old wouldn’t mind giving it another shot and seeing how he can grow as a player.

How did the Russell Westbrook ‘Exit Rumours’ begin?
The rumors that Russell Westbrook was looking to exit the LA Clippers first started gaining prominence a few hours ago. Sam Amick and Law Murray, two reporters from ‘The Athletic’, highlighted the Clippers’ disappointing loss and stated that the same would persuade the point guard to look for better opportunities elsewhere. “Does the nine-time All-Star and former MVP want to continue in this kind of limited role while playing on a veteran’s minimum deal, or might he have played his way into a better opportunity elsewhere?,” wrote The Athletic duo.
“Considering the challenges that came with him being relegated to a reserve role …. the answer may very well be the latter”. The speculation by Amick and Murray stemmed from the fact that Westbrook lost his starting point guard job to Harden and always felt that he could do more, despite his later success.

Since he was one of the few players who reportedly did not choose to speak to journalists during the regular season, not many were aware of what was truly going on in the player’s mind. As a result, it wouldn’t be too hard to form a conclusion that a sense of dissatisfaction might be clouding the player’s thought process.
