It’s desperate times for the Philadelphia 76ers! Down 0-2 against the New York Knicks after their trip to MSG, Joel Embiid and Co. are hoping to win Game 3 at Wells Fargo Center tonight, failing which could put their season at risk even more. And that desperation has led Embiid to take a rather unusual route, trying to injure an already banged-up Knicks Center Mitchell Robinson.
Already under injury management because of issues in his surgically repaired left ankle, Robinson headed into Game 3 with some doubts. And concerns grew even more when he started limping after some physical plays during the game. However, the most significant one came when Joel Embiid, while on his back after losing his balance, resorted to intentionally fouling Robinson to disrupt his shot.
With no other option, Embiid pulled Robinson down by his ankle while he jumped to finish the shot. That led Robinson to fall to the floor immediately, possibly reaggravating his injury. Then, as Robinson prepared to sub back in the game, Jalen Brunson asked him if he was okay, to which he responded with a nod.

However, the assurance from that nod didn’t seem to last too long because the Center was far from okay. The physicality on the floor took a toll on Mitchell’s injured ankle as he limped and hobbled his way up and down the floor. Then, tragedy struck the Knicks, as it was reported that Robinson would not return for the remainder of the game, as he had sprained his left ankle.
Mitchell Robinson is out for the rest of the game with the left ankle that he was questionable with coming in.
Meanwhile, Tyrese Maxey had his leg rolled up on and briefly was down on the ground in pain, but is up and on his feet now and staying in.

With that, Robinson’s night ended after playing only 12 minutes and scoring two points while grabbing seven boards. Even though it is uncertain at what point Robinson sprained his ankle, many blamed Embiid after his flagrant foul on the Center. Meanwhile, Maxey also suffered an injury scare but stayed in the game.

As the NBA world blamed Joel Embiid for re-injuring Mitchell Robinson, it was not a good look for the reigning MVP. Having returned from a major surgery a few weeks ago himself, Embiid knows how devastating it can be to suffer something like that. Yet, he put Robinson’s health at risk to stop him from scoring. With that, uncertainty looms as we don’t know how severe Robinson’s injury is or when he will return to action.
If he misses games going forward, the Knicks will lose nearly a six-point and nine-rebound-averaging player, again! And that could prove crucial against Joel Embiid and Co.

However, Embiid eventually got the last laugh, as he finally got the Sixers a win over the Knicks. Taking matters into his own hands, Embiid dropped a 50-piece at Wells Fargo Center and led the Sixers to a 125-114 victory. Moreover, the victory helped Philly bring the series to 1-2. And Embiid’s co-star, Tyrese Maxey also played a great supporting role, scoring 25 points. And that nullified Jalen Brunson’s 39-point performance, his best of this series so far.
Now, the Sixers will want to even the series on Sunday. That’s before heading back to New York. And Robinson may miss that game to completely recover from his ankle injury, giving Joel Embiid and Co. a better chance at winning.
