New York City is buzzing after the Knicks protected their home court against the Philadelphia 76ers in their playoff opener. Jalen Brunson and Co. defeated them 111-104 to take a 1-0 series lead in the first round. The crucial win at the ‘Mecca of Basketball’ left the Knicks fans ecstatic, and they took to the streets to celebrate. However, some took it one step further and reignited their infamous rivalry with Trae Young, while making bold Celtics claims.

The Atlanta Hawks superstar was suddenly in the limelight as fans chanted, “F**k Trae Young!” after the Game 1 win. Trae is used to hearing these chants in New York because of what he did to them in the 2021 playoffs. The 3-time All-Star shattered the Knicks’ Championship dreams and became New York’s biggest villain. It looks like he still lives rent-free in the Knicks fans’ heads, as they chant his name. After the Trae slander, they echoed “We want Boston.” After tonight’s win against the Sixers, the people of New York are already prepared to face the top-seeded Boston Celtics!

The Celtics have statistically been the best team in the NBA all year, and the Knicks’ path to a Championship will likely go through them. Both teams will meet in the Eastern Conference Finals if they win their first two playoff series. But the job is far from over for the Knicks. They are still up for a tough challenge against the Sixers, and the reigning MVP, Joel Embiid, will not go down without a fight.

Why do Knicks fans hate Trae Young?

The rivalry between Trae Young and the Knicks fanbase is one of the history books, ignited when the Atlanta Hawks superstars faced the Knicks in the 2021 playoffs. The Knicks had finally made it to the post-season after a 7-year drought and years of embarrassing seasons. But Trae ended New York’s Cinderella story after hitting a game-winning floater in Game 1 of that series. He shushed the riled-up crowd at MSG after the shot and yelled, “It’s quiet as f**k in here.” New York’s nightmare did not end there!

Trae hit a dagger 3 during a blowout win in Game 5 a few days later, ending the Knicks’ brief playoff run. He followed it up with Reggie Miller’s iconic bow, which was met with loud boos from the crowd at MSG. And no one enjoyed Trae’s antics more than Reggie, who announced the game that night. He said, “You are in the Garden. You might as well take a bow.” Since then, Trae has become a hated personality in New York. Whether he is on the court or not, fans constantly chant “F**k Trae Young” whenever the Hawks visit MSG.
