The Mavs eliminated the top-seeded OKC and sealed a berth in the Conference Finals. Following the victory, the scenes in the Mavs locker room turned emotional as Kyrie Irving delivered a heartfelt message to the team. “I just wanna thank every one of you, man. All your sacrifices, all the things that you are going through, watching… Truly appreciated… Keep the positivity going. Job’s not finished but we can definitely celebrate this one. It was hard,” Kyrie said as he addressed the Mavs family, including Mark Cuban and Jason Kidd. However, moments after the speech, a reporter left the star point guard in disbelief as he emphasized not taking any moment for granted.

A reporter asked Kai about his speech at the post-game press conference. Shocked by the question, he said, “I’m sure it’ll be on social media… So I don’t think there’s any more privacy to it.” Nevertheless, Kyrie Irving proceeded to sum up his speech from the locker room. He said, “I was trying to hold back to emotions just because of how hard and tough this series was.” Indeed, it was an emotional victory for Uncle Drew, as he was also seen hugging Luka Doncic, creating a tear-jerking moment in the middle of the court.

He further continued, “The job’s not finished but feels good to be in the Conference Final… You don’t want to take those moments for granted cuz no guarantee that you get back.” Speaking of the team’s confidence, PJ Washington represented it tonight without any hassle. With 2 seconds remaining on the clock, PJ had three FT attempts, with the score trailing behind one point. The 25-year-old kept his calm and sunk the first two FTs. And instead of dropping the third FT, he willfully missed it, leaving the OKC to take a full-court shot to win the game. Jalen Williams missed it and the Mavs registered a 117-116 win.

It wasn’t just the locker room speech that went viral, Irving’s yet another second-half showcase that saved the game, also went viral. The top-seeding OKC was on a mission to force Game 7 and take the business to their home for the showdown. They indeed played the game in that fashion.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored a game-high of 36 points with 8 rebounds. The MVP-runner-up’s second-quarter flurry ballooned the lead to 16 points by the first half. While it seemed like the Thunder would dominate the second half, Kyrie Irving turned up his cylinders. In the third quarter, he dropped 10 points and followed it with 8 points in the last quarter, finishing with 22 points.

On the other hand, the youngest side in the season couldn’t create history after an explosive 4-0 start in the first round. With Shai and Chet Holmgren (ROYT runner-up) on their side, the Thunder definitely have a bright future in the league. More than the elimination, the young side has had the valuable lesson of playoff experience. This could even convert into a dynasty in the coming years.
