3-Pointers and Stephen Curry are almost synonymous today. The revolution he put forth in motion spread like ripples in the ocean that is NBA today. More and more players and teams are becoming part of this enormous wave, in the modern-day NBA. Most recently, it was the Brooklyn Nets‘ backcourt and frontcourt that came together to display this. Trailing 47-52 at the half, the squad embarked on a historic night; all while capitalizing on the long range. Dennis Schroder and Mikal Bridges sank 7 triples each, while the team totaled a whopping 18 threes in the second half of the game.

Being nearly 5 games away from Play-in, the Nets’ surge highlights the drastic change in the present-day approach to the game. Their 18 threes are an indication of the NBA’s increased leaning on taking the longer route home. But Brooklyn isn’t the one team we’re talking about with most 3-pointers in a single game. Their contenders stand in the midwestern USA.

It is the Milwaukee Bucks that holds the record for the most 3-pointers by a team in a single game, all the time. They achieved the record after they sank 29-3 pointers on December 29, 2020. The record set by the Bucks remains untouched even in the 2023-24 season, despite the heaviness in the 3-pointers this season. The closest chalk to their record comes through the Utah Jazz’s 28 made threes on February 22, 2021, and the Houston Rockets’ 28 on February 1, 2021.

This season, only 4 teams have managed to connect on 25 threes in a game. With the latest entry being the Nets’ recent game, the New Orleans Pelicans (25 threes) became the first team to sit close to the Bucks’ record on January 17, 2024. On the other hand, the Boston Celtics, leading the league on their efficient three-point display, have touched the mark twice this season (March 3 and 14). Regardless, the Houston Rockets remain the closest team to the all-time three-pointers made by a team this season. The young group cashed on 27 threes on March 23, during their dominant 10-game-winning run.

It comes as a shocker for the religious Warrior fans, who thought San Francisco would hold the record, all thanks to Curry and the other Splash brothers. However, as teams across the league realize the potential ‘strength in numbers’, the Warriors flag still stands high through the individual record list.

Surprisingly, it is Klay Thompson who holds the record for the most 3-pointers by an NBA player in a game in the regular season. It was in October of 2018 when Thompson started to light the Windy City up. He took the Chicago Bulls, nailing 14 3s, 10 of them being in the first half alone. It was a game where fans saw the Warriors lead with 92-50 at halftime.

In the same game, Thompson managed to connect 18 of 29 from the field, including a 14 of 24 mark to score 52 points.

After Klay, his other Splash brother, Steph Curry holds the second position with 13 3s, who shares the spot with Damian Lillard and Zach LaVine.

As for playoffs, the number of 3-pointers record is held by Damian Lillard when he was with the Trail Blazers. His 12 3s in just one game stand at the top of his books, despite it being a loss for his team against the Denver Nuggets in 2021. Lillard finished the night with 55 points, which is also tied for the 5th most points in the playoffs.
