One of the trades this offseason that fans and even players are eager to see is Chris Paul joining the Golden State Warriors. Paul was traded from the Washington Wizards in exchange for Jordan Poole. While Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson along with Steve Kerr are excited by his arrival, this NBA analyst does not believe the Warriors will win it all.

Chris Paul has managed to improve every team he has joined to this day. But this NBA analyst believes that the trade was made solely due to salary restrictions for the current Warriors players.

The Golden State Warriors made a bold move trading away Jordan Poole. Poole was seen as one of the prospects for the Warriors’ future after Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Instead, the team’s front office went on and traded for a veteran point guard.

The trade could make sense in the way that the Warriors are going all in to pursue another championship. However, NBA Insider Brian Windhorst does not believe that Stephen Curry and the Warriors will win a championship after Paul’s addition.

Recently, Brian Windhosrt was asked if the addition of Paul extends the Warriors’ championship window. Windhorst said, “I don’t think that it does. I think, obviously the Warriors have instantaneous enormous respect for Chris Paul. That goes without saying even though he said it. The issue is the way Chris Paul plays. It is not really the way the Warriors play.”

“Now that doesn’t mean that he can’t come in and be able to find ways to get guys going particularly with Klay Thompson if they’re together on the second unit. I actually can see a way where that would happen the Warriors have never had a secondary lead guard who can who could go to work when Steph’s off the court.”

Windhorst’s take on why the Warriors traded for Paul

Brian Windhorst not only does not believe that Chris Paul’s addition would bring another championship to the Golden State Warriors. But he also believes that the trade happened due to an entirely different reason altogether.

Windhorst went on to say, “But to be we have to be honest here. The honest thing is that this deal was made largely as a salary dump. And if it’s going to extend the window of the Warriors Championship run, it’s so that they can afford to pay Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson on an eventual new contract by getting rid of the money that they were gonna have to pay Jordan Poole.”

Now whether Windhorst may be right or not, we will leave that for you to decide. Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
