The Dallas Mavericks displayed their grit and resilience during Game 4 of the NBA Finals last week. It was the peak performance the team needed to reinforce hope and drive to make the unprecedented comeback against the Boston Celtics. In the mix of it all, it’s tough to believe that Luka Doncic is slaying one of the best defenses in the league with multiple injuries. But can he hold on for the whole series or at least Game 5 tonight?

Per many injury reports of the Mavericks, Doncic has been listed as probable. The All-NBA First Team point guard suffered a chest contusion in Game 2 when Jaylen Brown bumped roughly into his ribs. It comes on top of an already injured right knee and sprained left ankle that he has been dealing with since mid-way through the postseason.

Doncic has been exemplary as usual during this crucial time of the year. He has averaged a stunning 28.9 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 8.2 during the playoffs so far, as a consistent and successful point of attack for the Mavs against the Boston side. In fact, he’s scored 30+ in two of the four games and shot at least 45% in three games.

The injuries have interfered with his shooting motion, leading to the onset of struggle. However, it doesn’t concern Doncic as much. All he needs is to be fit enough to get on the court. “At this point in the season, there’s a lot of things going on. I’m fine. If I’m playing, I’m fine so no worries” he told reporters ahead of Game 5 when addressing these worries.

Dallas Mavericks depth chart for Game 5

As it has been established, Luka Doncic is most likely going to play in Game 5 if he can even stand. Additionally, the Mavericks have no other injuries on the roster. Rookie Dereck Lively II seems to have recovered from his neck injury and was phenomenal in the Game 4 blowout win. Maxi Kleber, who returned from a right shoulder injury recently, has also found vital minutes in the rotation.

Considering everything, here is how the depth chart looks for the Dallas Mavericks for Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics.

The Boston Celtics are unfortunately still in distress with Kristaps Porziņģis’ rare leg injury. The star center has been listed as ‘questionable’ for Game 5 after missing the last two games due to his current injury. It means the East champions will have diminished rim protection and rebounding power.

In the blowout, that was how the Mavericks majorly beat down the Celtics in what was the third-biggest margin of victory in the history of NBA Finals. They scored 60 points in the paint, outscoring the Celtics by 34. They also secured 21 more rebounds, contributing to 14 more second-chance points for the Mavericks.

The loss of Porzingis is proving to be more costly than it seemed. Nonetheless, all Boston has to do is win one more game. They would prefer if it’s tonight at the TD Garden with the rave of their fans. On the other hand, the Mavericks have to go full throttle if they wish for a comeback.
