Will Klay Thompson's return to the Bay Area be the most emotional moment in Warriors' history?

Klay Thompson’s departure from the Bay Area has unfortunately turned into a core highlight of the Warriors’ trade season. It broke too many hearts. However, in the words of the Dubs front office, that’s what they needed to do. However, Klay definitely had an impact on the Warriors on and off the court with his grit and talent. They’re expected to give him a warm welcome when the Dallas star steps into the Chase Center on November 12. Yes! The Emirates NBA Cup schedule is out, and the Mavs are destined to clash with GSW during the fall.

NBA analyst, Andraya Carter said, “I fully believe Klay will come out and play with a sense of freedom on this Dallas Mavericks team because he trusts that the Mavericks wanted him and that was the biggest piece when it came to him leaving the Warriors.” However, Andraya is hoping for something special for the Splash Brother in November, recalling Jordan Poole’s welcome at the Chase Center last year. Notably, when Golden State traded Poole to the Wizards for Chris Paul, it was his first time playing against the Dubs in December 2023.

Yet the Warriors fans gave him a warm reception along with a tribute video on the big screen for his contribution to their 2022 NBA Championship run. Andraya expected the same fate for Thompson, as she added on NBA Today, “Klay should be special, it should be monumental. They should play Klay Thompson highlights at every single timeout. They should do a multitude of things to welcome him back and show how special and important he was to the dynasty that was the Golden State Warriors.”

Even Draymond Green had earlier confessed to “suppressing” his emotions regarding this life-changing and heartbreaking transition. “I haven’t allowed myself to really process it. I don’t want to,” he asserted after being asked the same question for the nth time. With the dynasty splitting apart and facing each other, this can get really teary-eyed for us. But what about the man himself?

How will Klay cope with emotions while playing against the Warriors?

The Warriors and Mavs game is one of the most anticipated games ever since Klay’s trade this summer. He has spent his 13 years in the Bay Area growing into the star that he is now. So even the ball boys, the analysts, the support staff, the cleaners, and all will place Klay Thompson on a rollercoaster full of emotions on November 12. But on the bright side, Thompson will also have Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic alongside him, to showcase his best as a sneaky return gift to the Chase Center audience.

Whatever Klay is today, be it the 5x NBA All-Star status, 2x All-NBA, or 6th best 3-point shooter in NBA history, it all started with the Warriors. That’s what Celtics legend Kendrick Perkins addressed, “It’s hard to get your mentality right, and I can only imagine what Klay is going to be feeling walking into that arena and playing against his brothers that he built so much legendary history with.”
