The Los Angeles Lakers have endured an underwhelming 2023-24 season. With the regular season reaching its climax, the Lakers currently languish in the 10th spot of the Western Conference standings. They might reach the playoffs, but winning an NBA title remains out of question. This spells doom for the LA camp hoping to retain King James.

However, LeBron James isn’t the kind of player who would idly sit around and wait for the Lakers to build a competitive roster. He has a track record of exploring other options when he sees fit, and he may consider doing the same with the Lakers. LeBron’s current contract with the Lakers ends after this season, but he has a player option for the 2024-25 season worth $51.4 million.

For the time being, James has kept his future plans under wraps, which has left everyone guessing as to what his next move might be. However, Jeff Teague has envisaged an end to LeBron’s illustrious career akin to a storyline from popular video game, NBA 2K. In a recent episode of the Club 520 podcast, Teague suggested that LeBron and Bronny should team up with the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, NBA insider Shams Charania dismissed Teague’s claims. He added by saying, “There are a lot of questions that LeBron still has to figure out.”

A key question that LeBron should promptly answer is whether he sees a future in Los Angeles. During the All-Star Game presser, James stated, “I am a Laker and I’m happy and been very happy being a Laker the last six years and hopefully it stays that way.” However, LeBron followed this up by saying, “I don’t have the answer to how long it is or which uniform I’ll be in.”

What could LeBron James’ next move be?

LeBron hasn’t provided much information or updates regarding his imminent free agency, which has birthed speculations and trade/free agency rumors. While LeBron has a player option with the Lakers, most experts and analysts believe that he won’t take up that player option. Furthermore, James has stated on multiple occasions that he wants to play with his son, Bronny, in the NBA.
