It has been an eventful win at the trade window for the Lakers front office, to say the least. They have re-vamped their roster in the hopes of making a deep run in the playoffs. The headlines were about the Doncic-Davis trade, a trade that also left a void in the Lakers’ roster. To fill the void, they swiftly made a move to acquire Charlotte’s center, Mark Williams, to fill the void. And this hunger, followed by action, makes them one of the most successful franchises in the NBA. But is there something bothering the purple and gold?
However, the happiness of acquiring a big man before the trade deadline didn’t last long. On Saturday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Williams failed his physical test. With the trade deadline now over, L.A. is left without Davis, Williams and their other big Christian Wood is yet to see the court this season. Moreover, the Lakers’ problems at the five don’t seem to end anytime soon. How will the Los Angeles-based team manage this crisis?
Updates on Wood’s injury are now breaking in, with the big man targeting a return somewhere in late February. The 6-foot-8 has struggled with injuries throughout his time in L.A. and is yet to make an impact. Furthermore, this makes youngster Jaxson Hayes the only option, which is a huge gamble for the team. That said, the Lakers can still waive someone from their roster — Wood or Cam Reddish will be top candidates to create a spot to bring in another center.

Even Antony Davis, the former Laker who was traded out, is expected to miss multiple weeks with a left adductor strain, told ESPN reporter Shams Charania. Past aside, the L.A. has room under the second apron to sign a buyout player. But who can the Los Angeles Lakers bring in to bolster their ranks? Well, the market for a big man is pretty dry. However, they could make a move for former first-round pick, James Wiseman. He could be the one to end Los Angeles’ center problems. Let’s get to know more about Wiseman.
Can James Wiseman solve the Lakers’ big-man problems?

James Wiseman was the second overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Warriors. The ceiling was pretty high for the 6-foot-11 Wiseman, who had a breakthrough in his rookie season averaging 11.5 in 39 games. He showed hope in Detroit and could’ve been valuable as a backup in Indiana. He’s now in his fifth season in the league, with the Toronto Raptors waving him just after acquiring the 23-year-old from the Pacers.

Furthermore, he could be a valuable addition to the Lakers. Wiseman is big, he’s athletic, and a cheap option for Los Angeles. The upside is pretty big if they manage to acquire him from the buyout market. If Rob Pelinka and the Lakers’ front office have a vision for the youngster, he could fit in very well in this new-look L.A. side. However, not all is good about Wiseman. He’s been plagued with injuries throughout his time in the league.

The former Pacers center hasn’t played since October after he suffered an Achilles injury. Moreover, he even missed his sophomore year due to a torn meniscus. Wiseman has played just 148 games in his career averaging 9.1 points, and 5.1 rebounds. That said, the Lakers are in dire need of a big man and there aren’t that many options. So, might have to take a gamble with James Wiseman and see if it works out for them.
