“Obviously, things went too far.” These were the words of Detroit Pistons HC J.B. Bickerstaff after a massive brawl broke out in the Wolves-Pistons game on Sunday night. The incident began with 8:36 left in the second half when Detroit’s Isaiah Stewart fouled Donte DiVincenzo. But wait, then, rookie Ron Holland II was called for a foul for slapping the ball out of Minnesota’s Naz Reid’s hands. Before anyone could realize, words were exchanged and DiVincenzo grabbed Holland’s jersey. Drama is already at its peak! Soon, everyone from players to coaches from both teams joined the scrum. However, things took an ugly turn when this fight spilled into the stands, and a young fan was caught in the crossfire. The result?
Well, as expected, several ejections followed. Peace was restored after the officials sent five players and two coaches to the locker rooms. After that, the game went on, with the Timberwolves grabbing a 123-104 win over the Pistons. However, all eyes were on the NBA on Sunday night. Why? Well, everyone was anticipating the league handing out punishments to the parties involved. Sure enough, the league has disciplined five players as they announced Sunday night’s brawl. Five players have been handed bans by the league. This includes the names everyone was expecting with Donte DiVincenzo and Naz Reid from Minnesota’s side, and Ron Holland II, Marcus Sasser, and Isaiah Stewart from Detroit to serve the punishments.
According to the announcement, the Pistons’ Isaiah Stewart will serve a two-game ban without pay. Whereas his teammates, Ron Holland II and Marcus Sasser, will serve a one-game ban without getting their paycheck. Pistons’ Stewart is serving the longest ban amongst all the players because of “his repeated history of unsportsmanlike acts,” as per the release from the NBA and executive vice president Joe Dumars. Meanwhile, Minnesota’s Donte DiVincenzo and Naz Reid are each set to serve a one-game without-pay ban. That’s tough for the Wolves, however, it could have been worse. This means the Wolves duo won’t be available for their Tuesday night’s matchup against the Nuggets. Tough call or well deserved?

However, they’ll be back in action against the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday. This is great relief for both teams, who could’ve faced consequences much worse than this. Meanwhile, no action has been taken against Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff or Timberwolves assistant coach Pablo Prigioni, who were also ejected after the incident. While the players have been disciplined by the NBA, you might be wondering what happened to the fan who unwillingly got caught between this drama. Well, soon-to-be controlling owner of the Wolves, Alex Rodriguez, had a special gift for the young Minnesota fan.
Alex Rodriguez came up with a classy gesture for the young fan who narrowly avoided a mishap
After an intense battle at the Target Center between the Detroit Pistons and the Minnesota Timberwolves. It wasn’t just the players and coaches involved who appeared to have escaped unscathed from the brawl. Chaos erupted when Minnesota’s Naz Reid waved his finger at Ron Holland II’s face. Wolves guard Donte DiVincenzo stepped in the way and grabbed the rookie’s jersey, and the drama, then spilled into the stands. It was then that a young Wolves fan wearing an Anthony Edwards jersey found himself in the middle of this heated affair.
Upon seeing this young fan was caught up in this massive brawl. Former MLB star Alex Rodriguez, who’s soon to take over the franchise, noticed the young kid who seemed upset with whatever happened. He then quickly waved and came over to comfort the fan once the dust had settled. To make amends, Rodriquez bought a gift for him. He presented the young fan with a fresh Naz Reid jersey. “And this kid was right there in the thick of it all, had the best seat in the house,” Timberwolves announcer Michael Grady said. “He’s going to be the coolest kid at school tomorrow as he got a Naz Reid jersey handed to him by Alex Rodriguez.”

That’s a lovely gesture from Alex Rodriguez after what could have been a really bad memory for the fan. The fan was seated right where the entire incident took place, and things could’ve easily gone south. Thanks to Rodriguez, who spotted the young fan and called for help as soon as he knew the situation. Moreover, it’s great to know that the Timberwolves fan was able to avoid any mishaps from the unfortunate incident. He’s alright and, more importantly, has a great story to share as well as a souvenir to show for it.
