Dallas Mavericks won the game against the Timberwolves last night, and it was intense between the guards of both teams. However, Luka Doncic emerged victorious against Anthony Edwards and scored 36 points in Game 5. One of the highlights of Luka’s game was his ball-handling skills. Even ESPN insider Brian Windhorst could not stop himself from comparing the Mavs player to one of the athletic GOATs. While appearing on the post-match analysis show ‘Get Up,’ Windy was asked about who Luka Doncic reminds him of. The host had no names in mind, even when legends like Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson were there in the game.

On the other hand, Windy compared him to a legend, as he stated, “He reminds me of Lionel Messi.” However, the NBA analyst messed up when he further claimed, “He [Messi] played for Real Madrid. Luka did.” Apparently, it was a lack of soccer knowledge from Windy, as Messi never played for Real Madrid. But the 46-year-old did not stop at the Real Madrid reference. He moved a bit further, making another claim out of thin air, “He idolizes Messi.”

Notably, Windy might not have considered Luka’s liking, as the Mavs player is a diehard fan of Messi’s biggest rival, Christiano Ronaldo. If Messi is about talent, Ronaldo is all about hard work and technique. Even in March this year, while speaking to Bleacher Report, Doncic shared that his favorite player in football is “Ronaldo.”

Though Luka did not seem to mind it at all, Ronaldo fans lashed at the ESPN analyst for making such bold claims on national TV with false information.

Fans teach a harsh soccer lesson to Brian Windhorst after his remark on Luka Doncic

Since Lionel Messi was definitely not a star player for Real Madrid, fans brutally went after Brian Windhorst. One of the Instagram users commented on the correct fact, “You mean Cristiano Ronaldo, bruh! Do your homework, lol!!!” This fan jokingly mocked the NBA analyst’s knowledge about football. But he was not the only one to put Windhorst down. Another user did not even try to correct Windy; he just commented, “Bruuh..0 football knowledge.” It seemed like this fan was embarrassed by how Brian made a false claim so confidently on television.

However, some of the fans took Brian’s remark in a funny way and could not stop laughing at the wrong claim, as one user wrote, “Man shut up😂😂, He played for Real Madrid and he idolizes Messi?😂”. Apparently, it was more of a joke than a statement for this user. Another Ronaldo fan took a sarcastic dig at Windhorst as he commented, “Wow… There are so many things wrong in that quote. It’d take a lifetime to explain..”

However, a mature comment stood out among the criticizing ones. An Instagram user commented, “Cristiano Ronaldo, actually, he’s a Madridista. But I get the point.” Though he corrected Windhorst’s mistake, he did not lash at Windy. Rather, the user understood what Brian was trying to say, as the latter was talking about Luka’s ball-handling skills.

What do you all think about the trolling that the ESPN analyst faced for his claim? Did he really deserve that much? Let us know in the comments. Also, make sure to watch out for what Shaq’s ex-agent, Leonard Armato, shared about the Big Man in the latest interview with ES.
