When you think about Trae Young’s game, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Is it his insane playmaking ability? Or his unlimited shooting range? Well, for some people, the thing about Trae that clicks instantly is his iconic ‘ice cold’ celebration after he hits a dagger shot over his opponents. Although the celebration has been associated with Young for years, he was recently accused of stealing the move by Chelsea FC‘s talisman, Cole Palmer. And finally, Trae broke his silence and revealed his side of the story.

Just like the Hawks superstar, Palmer has also been using the ‘ice cold’ celebration after most of his goals since the beginning of his pro career. In a struggling injury-ridden Blues side, the ex-Manchester City youngster was the one who stepped up and helped Mauricio Pochettino stabilize the season at Stamford Bridge. Well, he had a point to prove after leaving Pep Guardiola‘s umbrella of greatness at such a young age. He’s lived up to the hype, and the ‘cold’ in his nickname denotes 2 things. It rhymes with his name Cole and portrays his easy-to-the-eye technical ability in the attacking front. While we’ve reasoned it out for you, what did Trae have to say?

During a recent interview, the young midfielder took credit for the iconic move. “Everyone knows it’s my celebration. He (Trae) might have done it, but everybody knows it is my celebration.” Sure enough, Trae responded. However, he admitted that he had no idea about Cole Palmer’s comments. On Podcast P with Paul George, Trae said, “Respectfully, I don’t know who it is…I heard he’s a pretty good soccer player…now, ever since he started that celebration.”

Then, Trae revealed the actual origin story of his celebration, which was suggested to him by a friend while they were brainstorming ideas while watching basketball games in his basement. “He was like you ‘Ice Trae, you cold,’” Trae revealed. The point guard took his friend’s suggestion and used it in a game, “I remember hitting a three and like I don’t know if it was a game-winner or it’s a 3. I did it and then I kinda ran with it. I didn’t get it from nobody.” Because of Trae’s popularity and how well it complemented his nickname ‘Ice Trae’ the celebration stuck. That being said, this conversation led to some brainstorming for the newly announced Sixer.

Trae Young helps Paul George find his celebration

As Trae Young respectfully brushed aside Cole Palmer’s accusation of stealing the ‘ice cold’ celebration from him, the panel requested him to help Paul George figure out his unique celebration. In the era of social media, most big-name superstars have at least one move that is associated specifically with them. Be it LeBron’s ‘Crown Me’ or Steph’s ‘Night Night’, whenever these moves are done, you instantly know who they belong to. However, as great of a player PG is, he has never had a signature hook step in his 14-year career.

With him beginning a new journey in Philly next season, Trae Young suggested he hit his opponents with the ‘P’ sign every time he hits a three-pointer, “Throw your P’s out, bro. Podcast P. You know what I’m saying.” And the whole panel was impressed by his suggestion, even the man in question, himself. However, PG claimed that he might be too old to add a new celebration to his arsenal, “I’m trying too hard. It’s not natural no more.”
