This year, the NBA has pulled out all the stops to ensure maximum entertainment for fans. One such move that has received rave reviews from fans is the Stephen Curry vs. Sabrina Ionescu 3-point contest. The first-of-its-kind NBA vs. WNBA will pit the NBA’s all-time three-point leader against the WNBA single-season 3-point record holder. Last season, Sabrina set a new high after scoring 37 points out of a possible 40 in the Final Round of the WNBA 3-Point Contest.

This not only broke all NBA and WNBA records but also surpassed Stephen Curry’s highest of 31 points in the contest. Therefore, he is coming for her title this year, as he landed in Indianapolis all guns blazing. In a recent video from practice, Steph was spotted making five shots in a row from the deep, including one from the starry range, which is 29 feet, nine inches away from the basket. Just a routine at the office for Steph. However, with the level of intensity he’s bringing to his practice, he’s clearly out for blood.

The tournament is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Aside from fighting for 3-point supremacy, the two long-range prodigies will also be fighting for their respective charities. The NBA and WNBA have announced donations for Curry’s Eat.Learn.Play and Ionescu’s SI20 Foundation.

In addition, each regular three-pointer will fetch $1000 in donations from the State Farm to the NBA Foundation to support economic empowerment in the Black community. Similarly, the money ball is valued at $2000 and the “STARRY Range Ball” is valued at $3000.

Rules of the NBA vs. WNBA 3-point contest

The rules of the competition are similar to standard NBA 3-point competition rules. There will be five racks of five balls spaced at different points around the 3-point line. Four of those racks will contain the standard balls, which will earn them one point, and one money ball, which is worth two points.

The fifth rack will be full of money balls, but the shooters will have the liberty of placing them as per their choice. Apart from standard and money balls, the contest will also include two Starry range balls with three points each. Both of them will have 70 seconds each to take all the shots. The player with the most points after the clock runs out will win the bragging rights.

While it was first decided that Curry would shoot from the NBA 3-point line (23 feet, nine inches) and Ionescu would shoot from the WNBA 3-point line (22 feet, 1.75 inches), that is no longer the case. The New York Liberty guard has announced that she will also be shooting from the NBA line, just like Curry, to ensure a level playing field for both parties involved.
