The NBA All-Star Game has arrived. The event is all set for Sunday night at the famous Chase Center in San Francisco. While the format might be new, we’ll have plenty of similar faces. This includes LeBron James, who’s playing his 21st consecutive All-Star game. More veteran stars, such as Steph Curry and Kevin Durant, will also take the court on Sunday.
Well, there are some newcomers, too. Leading the pack is Spurs’ French sensation Victor Wembanyama, who’ all-set to make his first All-Star appearance with surely more to follow. The stars are divided into four teams—Shaq’s OGs, Chuck’s Global Stars, Kenny’s Young Stars, and lastly, the winner of the Rising Stars Challenge Team, Candace’s Rising Stars. But wait! Who are the coaches for the four All-Star teams?
The stage is set. The players are set. So are the coaches.
Shaq’s OGs:
Starting off with the best from the West, Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson has earned himself a spot in the NBA All-Star game for the very first time. The 57-year-old leads none other than Shaq’s OGs! Atkinson will manage arguably the most star-studded team. The team features fan favorites LeBron James, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, and more.

It will be extremely interesting to see how the Cavaliers coach approaches not only the mentioned stars but also Irving, Harden, and Lillard. There’s no doubt Atkinson has come a long way from where he started, and this achievement is a testament to his skills. He’ll have a great experience with his team, which includes former OKC stars KD and Harden, and hopefully, another achievement by the end.
Candace’s Rising Stars:
The All-Star Weekend is usually the showcase of the league’s best stars, but this time, we’ll get a chance to see some future All-Stars compete against the best of the best. On a much more interesting note, the team will also be spearheaded by WNBA’s finest, Candace Parker. She’s a three-time WNBA champion and also a two-time WNBA MVP.
The former No.1 pick couldn’t believe she’d be leading a team of her own. “I’m a fan first and foremost of the NBA and especially the All-Star Game, And so I think the fan of the game, and the childhood Candace is…I have to pinch myself to believe that I’m doing it and that I’m able to have a courtside seat to see the best players in the world.” Parker said. Her team, featuring the likes of Stephon Castle and Dalton Knecht, will be coached by one of Kenny Atkinson’s assistants.
Chuck’s Global Stars:
Charles Barkley’s team sure does have some serious firepower. Starting with Denver’s Nikola Jokic, who’s definitely a player everyone will have their eyes on. The team will also feature more international talent, with first-timer Victor Wembanyama among their ranks. This team will be headed by the electrifying Mark Daigneault.

What makes this even more special is the fact that Daigneault will manage a familiar face with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on the team as well. “[It’s] an honor. Huge thank you to all the people that are behind the scenes on that in the organization that work with the players, not only this season but previous seasons, obviously.” Said the OKC coach after being given this opportunity.

Kenny’s Young Stars:
Kenny Smith’s team has some of the most exciting players in the league, one of them being Minnesota’s very own Anthony Edwards. He is all fired up and given his nature, he’ll probably be one of the most competitive players on the court. Cleveland’s duo of Evan Mobley and Darius Garland will also star in this team. But who will lead them? Well, it will be Mark Daigneault’s most trusted general, Dave Bliss.

He will be reunited with OKC’s Jalen Williams, who’s making his first All-Star appearance. “I’m just looking forward to the experience — hopefully, I get to see some of my coaches and stuff.” Said Williams. Well, his wish has been granted. It will be a great opportunity for both Williams and Bliss to prove their worth with the world watching closely.
To sum it all up, these are the coaches who’ll be leading the four NBA All-Star teams in this newly structured format. Kenny Atkinson and Mark Daigneault are well-established in the league. However, their subordinates will have a chance to showcase their talent. And who knows, maybe impress a few teams looking for a new head coach. Nonetheless, us fans are excited to see how the game pans out on Sunday.
