The Mavs are in deep trouble. When Anthony Davis made his debut for the team on Saturday, the enraged Dallas fanbase saw a glimmer of hope as he dropped 26 points and sixteen rebounds in only three quarters. However, things soon went completely south as The Brow was forced to miss the final quarter due to an unfortunate adductor injury. Well, it looks like AD’s issue might be far serious than expected as latest report emerges about his health amid the team’s rising injury woes.

As per veteran insider Shams Charania, “The Mavericks will have a cautious rehab for AD. And I’m told the expectation is that Davis will need rehabilitation for the coming weeks on the adductor injury.” Turns out, Davis is expected to miss multiple weeks of action, potentially a month due to the left adductor strain. Even his spot in the upcoming All-Star game has been given to his new teammate Kyrie Irving, as AD will sit out the entire All-Star break.

Of course, this is not a good sign for the Mavs because Davis had just returned from an abdominal strain when he got traded from the Lakers. Sure, he is having a dominant season, averaging 25.7 points and twelve rebounds. But it might not be of much use for the Dallas franchise if the big man cannot stay healthy.

Adding to the concerns, AD is not the only Mavs big man absent because of injury woes. Unfortunately, Daniel Gafford suffered a right knee sprain during Monday’s Kings clash. Well, he was forced to leave the game after logging in only ten minutes, finishing with 4 points and three boards. Latest report reveals that Gafford will be re-evaluated in two weeks, which means he is also out through the All-Star break.

Obviously, this is a massive blow because Gafford is a key part of the team’s rotation, averaging 12.3 points and nearly seven rebounds. Additionally, his absence leaves the Dallas franchise with a major size disadvantage.

Well, the timing of Davis and Gafford’s absence could not have been worse because the Mavs were already very shorthanded in the big man department. That’s because Dereck Lively II is out with a right ankle stress fracture. And he has not suited up since mid-January. Despite being only two years in, Lively has turned into a key player for them, averaging 9.1 points and nearly eight rebounds. Sure enough, his breakout performance as a rookie was a major reason they reached the NBA Finals last year. Unfortunately, the injured star is due for re-evaluation later this month, ruling him out for now.

Meanwhile, Dwight Powell is also out since January 17. The reason? A hip injury. That puts another one of their bigs out of the picture as Powell’s timeline for return remains uncertain. Well, that leaves the Mavs without a true center for the upcoming weeks. In their absence, Olivier-Maxence Prosper is likely to play the big man role for the time being. Of course, these will be testing times for the Dallas franchise as they sit at the eighth spot in the West standings and continue to deal with the aftermath of the Luka Doncic trade.
