By now, it is no secret that Draymond Green is not a fan of Minnesota Timberwolves’ Rudy Gobert. Carrying forward rivalry that has gone on for more than half a decade, the duo seldom misses a chance to take shots at each other. With Gobert and the Wolves currently being the center of attention, and Dray being on the sidelines, the latter once again seems to be taking sneaky shots.

People who have been frequent viewers of the ‘Inside the NBA’ crew recently welcomed Draymond Green as a temporary fifth guy. After the Luka Doncic-led Mavs defeated Ant-Man and Co. for the 3rd consecutive time in the Conference Finals, Daniel Gafford joined in as a guest interviewee, Green made the best use of this opportunity by giving some advice to the ‘friend who is the enemy of my enemy’.

“Anytime you catch the ball in the pocket and you’re not comfortable going forward, you’ve got to D.H.O (Dribble Handoff) to the guard on that side, you’ve got to ‘uphill’ back to the guy that just passed you”, said the 34-year-old Warriors power forward. “If you feel uncomfortable, you know you can go to that”.

It didn’t take long for viewers to speculate why Draymond Green chose to hand out such offensive advice to the Mavericks player. Many of them took to social media to share their reaction to the same.

Draymond Green draws public attention after handing out advice to Rudy Gobert’s rival

An individual kicked things off by stating that what Draymond Green was doing was nothing but a bit of “nasty work”.

When it comes to Rudy Gobert, the Warriors veteran has had several instances during which he has been unpleasant toward his rival. During the 2018-19 season, Gobert had once again failed to get his name secured for the All-Star team. After he was captured allegedly crying over this grievance, Green took to his X (then Twitter) account and commented “I guess I should cry too… no Charlotte?”

Another person brought out his belief that Green’s hatred for Gobert is causing him to coach Mavericks players “FOR FREE”. However, another X user spoke out against this stance. He highlighted that the Warriors player has been supporting Luka Doncic and Co. to win the finals even before the Conference Finals. He called the stance a “nasty narrative push”. This caused the other guy to admit that he is not looking to take any stance, but just “stir up some sh*t”.

As stated above, Draymond Green has seldom shied away from giving out credit to the Dallas Mavericks when it was due. He was one of the first people to react after Luka Doncic secured a jaw-dropping 73 points against the Atlanta Hawks back in January. By commenting “Luka Unreal (emojis)! They traded Luka right?” the Warriors star praised Doncic and also took a jab at the Atlanta Hawks, who had traded the Slovenian player to the Mavericks during the 2018 NBA draft. A few weeks ago, after a report came out claiming that Doncic’s teammates would take a sigh of relief whenever the player would check out of a game, Green defended him by stating that the Mavericks lead scorer is “spoon-feeding” the ball to his teammates.

One commenter highlighted that Green’s advice should have been something different. He highlighted that instead of going into so much detail, the player should have just said “Just punch him then step on him”.

This remark was a reference to a few unpleasant situations in which Green had gotten himself caught throughout his NBA career. In 2022, the player made headlines after reportedly punching his own teammate, Jordan Poole, during a practice session. A few months later, during a matchup against the Sacramento Kings, Green was suspended for one game after stepping on the chest of Lithuanian-American center Domantas Sabonis. The two instances were just among a string of unruly behavior that Dray has reportedly engaged in.

One person attempted to make this about stats. He highlighted that Green only shows so much disdain towards Gobert due to jealousy. Jealous over the fact that the Timberwolves star has over 4 Defensive Player of the Year titles under his name, while Green only has 1.

The fight over the DPOY title is what several reports claim is the actual foundation of the rivalry between the two. In the 11 years they have been on opposite teams, Gobert has won it on four occasions, including the most recent one. This has often caused Green to take a shot whenever his rival is caught putting up a poor defense. When Nikola became the second player, after Chris Paul, to score 40 points and 10 assists with zero turnovers, the 4x NBA champion highlighted that Gobert was there in the defense in both games when the feats took place.

Overall, while there was a mix of reactions, the majority of them were negative towards Draymond Green. Furthermore, everyone seemed to be unanimous in their thinking that the Warriors player handing out advice was just a way to get to Rudy Gobert.
