“Can’t Believe He Got Out”: After Ryan Preece Survives One of NASCAR’s Most Violent Crash, Stunned NBA Reporter Shares Candid Reaction

The perilous nature of car racing took another decisive turn today. The NASCAR has seen its fair share of car crashes, but today’s crash has left deep imprints. With numerous cars vying for space in a narrow lane, the sport itself receives further scrutiny. Is the competition adrenaline worth such crashes and should the participants be put in a tough spot? Ryan Preece has a near-death experience

With six laps to go in the Daytona International Speedway Infield, the tussle for a Playoff spot was getting heated. Trying to make something happen amidst a number of cars, No. 41 Preece’s car turned left and lost its balance, hitting his teammate No. 14 Chase Briscoe. This crash sent the No. 41 car into the grassy infield.

As it hit the green turf, the car started to tumble like a toy thrown by a vigorous kid. Making flips in the air and hitting its hood repeatedly. The flips continued for many seconds and were around a dozen in number.

In this wake, viewers had their hearts in their mouths. Can the driver survive such a tough ordeal? Is he even alive? However, he soon emerged out of the car and, with assistance from the medical personnel, safely.

After the driver survived, millions got their breath back. In one instance, NBA veteran reporter David Aldridge also expressed his concern for the driver.

The incident has further brought into the question of safety in NASCAR. With so many cars going through the motions, such incidents have had historical precedents.

There have been 28 fatalities during NASCAR races.

A trail of devastation

The last NASCAR track-related fatality came in 2001. Nothing can signify the destruction better than the death of Dale Earnhardt, who was a pioneer in the racing world. Known as the Intimidator, the Man in Black, and Ironhead, the driver lost his life in a nasty collision. In a three-car crash, the force of the collision tossed him out of his car and he hit his head on the outside wall.

Medical reports confirmed he died due to a basilar skull fracture caused during the impact of the crash.

This incident paved the way for further safety measures and they have recorded no deaths on the track for two decades. However, with the way Preece’s car was sent flying, many feared that we may see a repeat of such an incident. 

Luckily, the driver is safe and willing to resume his career. This showcases the iron will of the drivers who are literally playing tag with death.
