Well, it might have been Klay Thompson’s homecoming, but it was undeniably the Stephen Curry show last night. While the captain’s hats were waving in the arena and the emotions were running high, The Baby-Faced Assassin showed why he’s the reigning Clutch Player of the Year. The Splash Bro scored the last twelve points for the Warriors and led them to victory. Sure enough, the performance was surreal for everyone who witnessed it, including NFL superstar, Deebo Samuel.
Yes, the 49er was in attendance along with teammate Ricky Pearsall to witness Steph take over Klay’s comeback game. And the atmosphere Curry’s flurry created reminded Deebo of a familiar feeling, “Feel like I was at a football game for real, like crowd was loud, intense. Curry put the nail in the coffin… Overall, it was a great game for sure.”

Although Deebo has never won it all, he has made two Super Bowl appearances. So, he knows exactly how it feels to play on the NFL’s biggest stage. And last night’s Chase Center game was reminiscent of that feeling. All thanks to Steph. At one point, it looked like Klay would end the night one-upping his former team, as the Mavs were in the lead for quite some time. But the Warriors legend went four of four in the final 3:10 of the game and made two deep-range shots to turn the game around in the closing minutes.

Sure enough, Deebo Samuel had high praise for the sharpshooter. “I don’t know how he runs around the court all game the way he does, and how the team feeds off his energy with him and Draymond. It’s just crazy.” As great as Steph is with the ball, what separates him from the rest of the competition is his movement off the ball. Since the league began tracking the distance players cover during games ten years ago, Curry ranks fourth in the league with 2103.5 miles covered, as per HoopsHype’s research. And that is one of the reasons why he gets so many good looks.
Deebo Samuel talks about Klay Thompson’s return after Stephen Curry deems it a “playoff-type atmosphere”
Obviously, the main reason last night’s game was so special was because it was the first time Klay was playing inside Chase Center wearing an opposing team’s uniform. And he received all the love he deserves from Dub Nation for everything he has done for the Bay Area franchise. While Samuel revealed that he was not able to catch the tribute ceremony as he was late because of traffic, he addressed Klay’s return after the game, “Yeah, it’s always good to come back home and knowing that you still got the support.”

Meanwhile, Stephen Curry shared a similar sentiment about the game feeling more than just a regular season encounter, “No matter what the sound bites were before the game leading up to it, we knew there would be a lot of emotions but both teams wanted to win like felt like playoff-type atmosphere.” Sure enough, there are very few games during the regular season that generate this level of hype and excitement. Last night was one of those games and Steph made it even more special with his 37-point takeover.
