Stephen Curry above Kobe Bryant? Is this the ultimate disrespect or a well-deserved recognition?

The flurry of three-pointers that flew through the baskets from the hands of Stephen Curry left the NBA community marveling over his talent. The impact that Chef Curry had in those clutch moments brought Team USA the gold medal. Since the performance from the Golden Boy enticed the viewers at a global level, the debate about the All-Time greats will come under scrutiny as well. New names will be compared to the old legends of the game. And this time the debate is between Kobe Bryant and Stephen Curry.

Former ESPN analyst Jason Whitlock voiced his opinion on his podcast as he stated, “I think what Steph Curry did in these Olympics establishes him as a more iconic important historic. Dare I say, I don’t know if I can use the word better but he ranks higher to me on the All-time greats of NBA basketball players now than Kobe Bryant.” The bold claim left Whitlock’s guest on the show in shock as he could respond with an “Oh!!” to Whitlock’s audacious remark.

But it did not stop the ex-ESPN analyst from moving ahead with his argument as he further added, “He was just legitimately the MVP of the Olympics even though they just handed it to LeBron. His impact on the game, the way he changed the style what he’s done for the young people in the game, I think it exceeds Kobe Bryant. So I came out with a top 10 list and I think I got Steph either number six or Kobe seven Steph five or Kobe six. But I have now Steph Curry ranked ahead of Kobe.”

With the strong opinions that Whitlock expressed on Stephen Curry after his Paris Olympics antics, Has Chef Curry surpassed the Black Mamba?

Is Stephen Curry better than Kobe Bryant?

Apart from an NBA MVP, Kobe Bryant holds better records than Stephen Curry. The Golden Boy has 2 NBA MVPs from the years 2015 and 2016. While Kobe Bryant has only one MVP from 2008. However, fans often argue that Curry’s first MVP was weak. Even Curry agreed to it to ESPN after the 2015 NBA Finals as he said, “I mean, I expected to be a pretty good NBA point guard and hopefully win a championship. But MVP and all this stuff? Not really.”

As per stats, Curry comes off as a better shooter with his 42.6% three-point shooting than that of Kobe[32.9%]. However, Kobe was a far better defender[5.2 rebounds] than the Warriors star[4.7]. Also, the Lakers legend Kobe was a great shot-creator than Stephen Curry, who was more technical with his approach. However, even if someone comes up with the MVP argument, Whitlock’s co-host had a suitable reply for that, “When you talk about the MVPs, there was at least another two or three years that Kobe should have won it, especially in 2006 and may be even 2007 when he had to carry bad bad Lakers team post Shaq.”
