Basketball fans have something to rejoice about before the regular NBA season starts. The WNBA playoffs have just kicked off and fans have gotten the privilege to see some great performances from WNBA players so far. One such player was New York Liberty?s Sabrina Ionescu against the Washington Mystics.

Sabrina Ionescu had an amazing outing in the first game of the first round of the WNBA playoffs. However, hours before mesmerizing fans, Ionescu may have thrown some shade at their city?s NBA team, the New York Knicks.

Sabrina Ionescu has been one of the top players in the WNBA since she got drafted. The New York Liberty drafted Ionescu back in 2020 with the first overall pick and she certainly hasn?t let the city of New York down.

However, her latest comments regarding the basketball playing in New York City may rub fans the wrong way. No doubt that the New York Knicks got eliminated from the second round of the playoffs last season. Yet, Ionescu?s comments may have been a hard pill to swallow.

In a recent interview prior to her game against the Washington Mystics, Ionescu was asked about the state of professional sports played in the city. Moreover, how depressing it has gotten over time. To that, Ionescu said, ?I?ve seen it. I?ve kept quiet because I feel like we?re gonna let our work from here on out do the talking. And we’ll be able to shut up those people on Twitter that have anything to say about what’s been going on with New York sports.?

Ionescu also went on to add, ?As far as I’m concerned, we’ve been playing the best basketball that’s been played in New York City for a very long time.?

Will Ionescu face heat for her comments?

The New York Liberty had the second-best record in the league just behind the Las Vegas Aces. And they have proven that they are one of the best teams in the WNBA along with being the best sports team in New York. And Sabrina Ionescu is a huge part of that.

She went off for 29 points in the 39 minutes that she played against the Mystics in the first round. Along with that, Ionescu also managed to record 6 rebounds and 2 assists as well.
