Is Giannis' aggressive style a game-changer or just plain unfair to his opponents?

If you see Giannis Antetokounmpo charging towards you at full speed, you better get out of the way. That’s because he is going to get to that basket one way or another. Obviously, the Greek Freak’s moves are not always pretty and things could even get physical at times. And his opponents sure have a problem with that. As Giannis dominated in tonight’s season opener against Philly, a frustrated Kelly Oubre Jr. mockingly showed the referee exactly how the Bucks star uses his big frame to penetrate through the defense.

Well, the Sixers players including head coach Nick Nurse argued with the referee on the sidelines. They cited that Giannis constantly gets away with illegally using his elbows to get past defenders. They stressed that this should be called an offensive foul. While an angry Nurse showed an example with just one elbow hit in the air, Oubre got a bit more creative and began dancing in front of the official, alternately hitting the air with both elbows for several seconds.

Although the moment was hilarious, it surely had the Philly fans worried because of Oubre’s troublesome history with the refs. Just last season, he became the talk of the town after he openly cursed out multiple game officials following a loss against the Clippers. Well, the incident occurred after Oubre was blocked by Kawhi Leonard on two consecutive final second plays that could have potentially won Philly the game. Sure enough, Oubre believed he was fouled on both plays but the referees did not blow the whistle even once.

While Nick Nurse argued with the refs about the no-calls, Kelly walked up to all three officials and pointed at each one of them saying “You’re a b***h. You’re a b***h. You’re a b***h.” As he was being separated by his teammates, he kept cursing out the officials. However, he was apologetic about his actions after the game.

While his mocking Giannis with a dance was a much light-hearted incident than what happened last season, fans were worried that he might get tossed or penalized with a technical foul because of his bad blood with the refs. During a recent appearance on Paul George’s podcast, Oubre revealed that he had to face the consequences after cursing out the officials last season, “I couldn’t get calls for, like, two weeks after that, either.”

Moreover, he even apologized for his actions after the incident, “I want to apologize for just losing my cool, because that’s something I try to work on each and every day, and try to represent God in the best way I possibly can, and that wasn’t it. I just ask for forgiveness.” And when he went back home after the game and saw the video go viral, it was not a pleasant feeling, “Right after it happened and I see myself on ‘House of Highlights,’ I was embarrassed for real, man.” Although not to the extent of cursing at them, tonight’s actions show that Oubre will not shy away from speaking his mind to the referees if he feels something is wrong.
