After the Philadelphia 76ers lost to the Miami Heat, 119-113, on Christmas Day, the focus swung back onto Mo Bamba, the seven-footer who seems to have some ability at getting reactions. When the Sixers take on the Orlando Magic at Kia Center this evening, it is a homecoming of sorts for Bamba, who was traded by the Magic to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Just after the loss against the Heat, Bamba was initially called for an interview. Where he mentions something with no hate for his previous team, Orlando Magic.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Bamba’s initial response to the looming matchup was stark: “I don’t care about these people.” A brief pause, a mischievous grin, and then the revelation: “Nah, I’m joking.” Laughter ensued, but Bamba’s sentiments set the tone for what promises to be an intriguing game filled with subtext.
In a game against the Heat, Bamba faced stretches of disinterest, was a step slow on the court, and out-muscled down low. This did not escape the attention of head coach Nick Nurse, who swiftly benched him during a tough stretch early in the first quarter. But Bamba’s resilience was again evident during his second period. Assigned to the starting center position, he turned in an excellent performance. In the second quarter alone, he scored 14 points, including a 6-for-7 shooting percentage.
He may not have had star numbers with an average of 4.4 points and 7.3 minutes per game throughout 16 appearances, but Bamba’s willingness to assert himself when the opportunity arises demonstrates his desire to make a name for himself in this league as someone who fears no one. His 61.5% three-point shooting sets a new high for his career, adding an intriguing facet to the developing array of his skills.
