The 10-year contract, which seemed like a big contract, currently seems less impactful, as 97% of the total contract is ‘deferred’.

Is Ohtani’s contract worth the hype?

Of course, the number $700 million took center stage and everyone went gaga about the deal. But the implications of the contract make it an understatement. ESPN‘s Jeff Passan reported that 97% of the total amount is deferred, which means $680 million is deferred. Moreover, the star would get paid $2 million at the end of every season for 10 years, followed by $68 million every 10 years.

Importantly, this led to whether Ohtani would benefit or not. The debate has already begun among the fans on social media platforms.
