The Dallas Mavericks were just starting to accept their fate and adjust to the fact that Luka Doncic wouldn’t be available for the upcoming weeks when they got hit with another severe blow. Dallas’ vehicle lost its other wheel too, as this time, it’s Kyrie Irving who has registered his name on the franchise’s injury report. No, it’s not the illness that sidelined him before the Cavaliers game. This injury will keep him out for a much longer period.

Shams Charania confirmed the injury news earlier today. “Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving has a bulging disc in his back and is expected to miss at least 1 to 2 weeks, sources tell me and @espn_macmahon. There is optimism that treatment over the coming days will provide a return to play target date,” he announced on social media.

This means Kyrie will be missing the Grizzlies game tonight and also the next one against the Lakers. So, no, we aren’t getting a LeBron James reunion with Kyrie Irving. The Lakers star recently joked in a post-game interview that when it’s time to play the LA side, everyone magically gets fit. But that wish has now petered away as Kyrie is joining Luka Doncic on the injury list. Now things look worse for the Dallas side and the fans know it better than anyone else.

Dallas in dismay after Kyrie Irving injury update

Since the news surfaced, the Mavs fans have taken to social media showing their frustration over recent developments. “We missing the playoffs dude ✌,” a fan lamented on Charania’s X post.

Another fan highlighted, “At least” in Charania’s post “is the key phrase.” And further continued, “A bulging disc is no joke. The dude will likely be out far longer than that.” According to Cleveland Clinic’s reports, an injury as Kyrie’s usually takes four to six weeks to fully recover. So, the fan’s concern is valid in this case. It may indeed take longer than the expected timeline.

With Kyrie and Luka out, are the Mavs' playoff hopes officially dashed this season?

Have an interesting take?

“It’s so over for Dallas,” read one of the comments. First, it was Luka and now Kyrie– the two main producers behind their offensive run. With both of them sidelined by injuries, the Mavericks will certainly be in deep water.

“We legit can’t catch a break,” a fan wrote. You can’t blame them. Luka’s absence was already a significant void, and losing two of the team’s big stars back-to-back is a massive blow. Head coach Jason Kidd will have a really tough time trying to manage without them, especially since Luka’s recovery is still far from being complete.

Meanwhile, someone claimed, “We are cursed.” The huge blow was clearly too much for the fans to handle, sparking such a response. Last season, the team reached the 2024 NBA Finals, and it was a treat to watch Luka and Kyrie carry the team on their shoulders, showcasing incredible chemistry. Fast forward to this season, they’ve struggled with consistency, holding a 20-15 record. However, there’s still plenty of game left.

Do you think the Mavericks can hold up until their stars return, or is this really it for them this season? Let us know your thoughts below!
