NBA Draft’s first round has been completed today, and the proceedings will go onto the second round starting at 4 p.m. ET as per the new format. Notably, LeBron James’ son, Bronny, is in the second round. Most probably, the Lakers will go with the 19-year-old, as they have only the No. 55 pick left. He was speculated to land at the no. 54th pick, much closer to where the Lakers can get him. It’s like a dream come true for LeBron and his son to play alongside the same team, for the first time in NBA history.
On such an auspicious occasion, LeBron got sentimental after remembering a dear family member, his late grandmother. Nike today launched “GRANDMA’S COUCH” theme shoes for the Nike LeBron 21 shoe line. Therefore, King James made sure to share the post on his Instagram story, quoting, “Dedicated to my granny Freda! Miss you so much!!!🤎🤎🤎🤎🤎👼🏽👼🏽👼🏽👼🏽.” The colorways and floral patterns on the shoes resemble Bron’s granny’s living room couch. That might be the reason he felt so connected to them.

LeBron had a close relationship with his grandmother, she helped his mother, Gloria, in the initial years. She died 3 years after Bron’s birth in 1987 because of cardiac arrest and “it was really hard for us,” he admitted in 2014. Yet LeBron remembers her even after the 36 years of her death and misses her. It seems like he has an etched childhood core memory of his grandmother on his mind. It was a pure-hearted devotion from King James. However, the moment that made it more emotional was Bronny’s fate, which is going to be decided soon at the NBA draft today.
Is LeBron James’ son staying on the West Coast with the Lakers?
The first round of the NBA draft has completed, and the Lakers have utilized their no. 17 pick. The front office chose the Tennessee guard Dalton Knecht in the first round to balance their need for a wing player. Moreover, the player also has the caliber to score shots at the rim. Now, the Purple and Gold have only no. 55th pick left and as per The Athletic, “It’s seen as likely by sources who represent opposing teams across the league that the Lakers will select Bronny James in the second round of the 2024 NBA draft.”
However, despite the hope of keeping LeBron with the team, Bronny’s skills at the pro level still raised eyebrows. Yet the Lakers managed to avoid it by selecting Knecht. It will give them time to nurture a developmental prospect like Bronny. Initially, Bronny did not seem draftable, considering his performance at a high level at USC. But LeBron James, a firm believer, wanted to play the last years of his career with his son, and it might happen soon.
In a shocking revelation on ESPN’s draft broadcast, Bob Myers stated, “Rich Paul is calling teams [telling them] don’t take Bronny James.” Well, if this is true, then JJ Redick’s second pick in the draft seems to be already pre-determined, and it is the 19-year-old.
