The Denver Nuggets star point guard Jamal Murray’s antics from Game 2 have not been taken well by the NBA community. Two days after the game, the league took cognizance of the matter and fined Jamal Murray $100,000 for his stunt of throwing the heat pack in the painted area. However, the way Jamal Murray took it in front of the media for what he pulled off against the Minnesota Timberwolves has received criticism from the national media.
ESPN insider Mike Greenberg gave Murray a mouthful on the ESPN show GetUp when he reacted to the response from Murray for the fine, quoting it as the “weakest thing” he had ever seen in 35 years of his career.
While talking about Jamal Murray‘s cold response to his actions, Greenberg criticized vigorously, “To pretend that it was ridiculous that he was even being asked about it two days later is a pathetic headache. It’s pathetic.” Moreover, Greenberg pointed out how Murray could have apologized more humbly and accepted his fault. Per Greenberg’s harsh words, Murray’s response could seem unapologetic to the NBA followers. “It is what it is. I take full responsibility, so on to the next, ” this is what he responded when a media professional asked him about his comment on the fine.

These cold words have started a heated debate about whether the Nuggets guard should have received a suspension for his actions on the court. Moreover, Greenberg himself implied that Murray’s actions had nothing to do with the basketball. The games get tense, and it is normal to have high emotions. However, to admit one’s mistakes more politely and a promising confession of the mistakes might go more far than just a couple of responsive words.

How was Jamal Murray not called out for his second antic on the court?
The heat pack that Murray threw on the court in frustration could have injured Karl-Anthony Towns. However, it was not the only move that could be called by the referees. 15-seconds prior to the incident, during the heat-pack incident, it was noticed that the Nuggets guard also threw a towel toward Davis. Before any mishappening, the Nuggets ball boy immediately went on the court to pick up the towel. Murray could have landed in grave trouble if any players from his team or from the opponent as well slipped on the court.
Luckily, Murray got away from the first one and fined the largest amount the league could send instead of suspension. But NBA commissioner Adam Silver and the league officials rebuked Jamal Murray, making sure that no such mistakes are repeated in the future. Despite the late action on the controversial incident, the NBA community is questioning the league’s judgment as well as Murray’s behavior.

The object throwing during the game is a serious technical foul during an ongoing game. On top of that, the officials missed it and took action after two days. Though the matter is resolved now, the consequences stemmed from Murray’s frustration, which he might have taken care of. Therefore, it will be worth watching if the Nuggets guard will make it up with the fans and community more humbly this time.
