For a while, it looked like the Milwaukee Bucks could make a push for another superstar next to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard. It started with Jimmy Butler and even opened Bradley Beal. However, the franchise chose to walk a different path. The Bucks traded for Kyle Kuzma, a proven third-option scorer for a championship team in the past. Still, the trade itself upsets the Greek Freak.

In trading for Kuz, the Bucks lost Khris Middleton, a celebrated franchise icon who had a special relationship with Antetokounmpo in particular. The trade does do some good for the Bucks as Kuzma can space the floor and is a dynamic wing scorer. But the loss of Middleton might cut a deep wound within the team’s central star.

Moreover, the fans don’t believe the acquisition of the Michigan-born player was worth the prize.

NBA fans mock Milwaukee Bucks for trading Kyle Kuzma

During his time with the Los Angeles Lakers, Kuzma earned high praise for his ability to be a productive scorer next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis. However, since his move to the Wizards, his stock has tremendously dropped. And for the Milwaukee Bucks, who are looking to transform into title threats, the fans don’t see how such a trade benefits them.

Did the Bucks just sabotage their title hopes by trading Middleton for Kuzma? What’s your take?

A fan wondered, “What exactly does this move accomplish for the Bucks.” At first glance, it may seem illogical to part ways with Middleton. The forward is accustomed to playing besides Giannis Antetokonmpo and has been crucial during the postseason in particular. However, with his injury history, getting a younger forward that could replicate his impact may have motivated the team to pull the plug on such a trade.

That didn’t stop many fans from laughing at the trade. The ‘Clutch Coos’ hasn’t been in great form this season, averaging 15.2 points per game. It’s his lowest output since joining the Wizards. Moreover, he is also shooting a career-low 28.1% from three. Hence, one Bucks fan wrote, “This is a joke right? We actually just got worse”.

On a positive note, Kyle Kuzma has been putting up some great performances recently including two 30-point games in 10 days. Additionally, with both Giannis Antetokounmpo and Lillard attracting high defensive attention, the floor does open up for the former Lakers forward. Cleaner looks and an opportunity to fight for a championship could lead to Kuz playing at his best once again.

It did leave many wondering how the Bucks landed on Kuzma. Several star players were linked with the Bucks, with the trade deadline quickly approaching. One fan simply couldn’t understand how they opted for the Wizards forward instead of another impact maker. “You let Lavine leave and you’ve gone for Kuzma? joke organization,” one fan wrote, expressing his feelings.

But there’s a critical benefit behind getting the 29-year-old. Kyle Kuzma’s contract is nowhere near as lucrative as Zach Lavine’s. Moreover, his foregoing a portion of his trade bonus allowed the Bucks to fall below the second apron. It opens up the avenues to make more moves and also save tremendously in tax payments.

With that in mind, a portion of the fans were also in favor of the Bucks trading for Kyle Kuzma. “That is a score for the Bucks. They get younger and get a good scorer and NBA champion,” a fan mentioned.

And well, that is true. Kuzma has proved that he can be a ravishing player on the big stages. He was an integral during the Lakers’ championship run in 2020. With a much open floor and a set game plan, Kuz the ‘Cruise Control’ can become a consistent contributor for the Bucks, who are tremendously lacking scoring in their starting lineup besides their star tandem.
